Disney pools and their disappearing deep ends!

Over the years, Disney has built new Resorts with new pools. Back in the day, the pools had "deep ends," typically up to about 6'4". This was great b/c as a tall guy, it's fun to swim and tread water.

The newer Resort's pools do not have deep ends, maximum deaths are at about 4 or 5 feet. I hate it.

Recent pool refurbishments have lead to the removal of the deep ends. Caribbean Beach's feature pool was filled in and no longer has a deep end, so was Ol Man Island's pool and several quiet pools around property now are only shallow.

Anybody else notice this? And anyone have any information if the current Stormalong Bay refurb is being used to eliminate the deep end. I hope not; Stormalong Bay has a deep end of about 12 foot in the lazy river area and I am hoping it stays in tact. I think it just may be the only WDW pool left with a depth of more than 5 ft.

Anybody have any news about the Stormalong Bay refurb? General refurb or eliminate deep end???

I haven't any news to share, but in answer to your query I believe you can blame lawyers and a lawsuit hungry society for the disappearance of deep ends in pools.

Yeah. Unfortunately my sons will never know the pride of overcoming the gut-gripping fear of "high dive" diving boards or the triumph of actually swimming down and touching the bottom of a 12' deep end. I feel ya.

Just keep swimming......:lookaroun

If they make significant changes to Stormalong there might be a revolt. It is one of the best pools I've ever had the pleasure of swimming in.

Some of the best parts of being a kid who loves swimming in a pool is the DEEP END!? That really stinks if pools all over property do away with the deep end, even for the adults. Don't they have the 'swim at your own risk' signs up?

The Meadow's pool at FW still has a deep end, but they are doing a refurb on it right now. I don't know how extensive it is going to be, but I would think that it would have to be really extensive to get rid of that depth...

YC/BC pool is still over 8' deep in the lazy river section.

I also hate the fact that most pools are only just over 5' deep. Being 6'4" I like to be able to hang out in deeper water and tread water for a while

Thanks for all the responses. Doesn't it stink that kids can't get over a fear of a deep end and eventually wander into it? No pool had a true deep end of 12 foot, but they did reach upwards of 6 and 7 feet.

So there is confirmation that Polynesian's quiet pool has a deep end. Anybody else know of any Disney pools that still have a deep end??

I go in the pools, stand up, and its generally waist to stomach high. I hate it!! Where are the deep pools at???!

So far: Poly quiet pool

We know Stormalong Bay was, but is its current refurbishment filling in the deep ends??

Since this topic was brought up, I thought this would be a great time to ask this question.

Probably ten years ago in Stormalong Bay, two of the three pools use to have air bubbles in them but over the past 5 years these bubbles have been turned off. Does anyone know why? I use to love to swim in the bubbles, especially in the 8ft section of the lazy river!

I haven't seen those bubble jets on since at least 2002. And they do a lot of pool refurbs, so wonder whats wrong with them. Maybe moves sand away too much.

Possibly, but maybe it was a safety hazard? I bet it is difficult for a lifeguard to see into those bubbles. Are there any former/current lifeguards at the Beach Club that could answer this question?

I do not think something the problem was with moving sand because those jets ran for probably 15 years.

Eliminating the deep ends of swimming pools reduces the risk of tragedy which means bad publicity AND lawsuits. Two things the suits in the corporate office don't want.

Also simplifies life guard duties if the guards can stand on the bottom while they retrieve a young tyke.

I was thinking that myself.

No offense to people of certain body sizes or age, but it is not easy to rescue swim with a person.

I had noticed that some WDW lifeguards are not exactly "Baywatch" extras. I was wondering what sort of swimming requirements they have. Then it hit me one day, they don't even need to know how to swim, an average adult can WALK anywhere in most pools.

I understand why the deep ends are gone. However I don't agree with it.

But lets start a list of pools with deep ends:

Polynesian Quiet Pool we have heard
And can assume Typhoon Lagoon surf pool and Stormalong Bay when they open post-refurb.

Any other quiet or feature pools with a deep end, say deeper than 5 foot??
