Can anyone explain to me the pin trading? How much is a typical pin at DIsney? How much are the lanyards etc? I am just deciding whether or not I want to check it out when I get there or if the expense is too much. It sounds like fun if I can understand it. Thanks a million!!!

Well the concept of the pin trading is that you buy and collect pins at Disney. From the ones you collected you can trade pins with other people in the park or with cast members that have them on their lanyard. For example, you might see like a pin you really like that a cast member has. You can trade i think one (but not sure) of your pins and the cast member will give you that pin you like for the one you chose to trade. Most of the pins I see in the kiosks are mostly about $6.50, but some pins can cost more. I am not sure about the lanyards though.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll thank me later for all the money you save!!! :animwink:

Pin Trading is essentially another way for Disney to make sure you leave every penny you have with them before you leave to go home! :p

Actually, though many folks enjoy it and buy lots of pins at the parks, the best advice I can give you is to go to your local Disney Store and buy a bunch of pins on Sale (sometimes as much as 75% off) -- THOSE are the ones you then trade for all the expensive park pins if you are lucky enough to find someone to trade with.

There is even an entire open air "Pin Store" at Downtown Disney for some quick one-stop shopping and "Make-your-own-pin" accessories.

All Cast Members with lanyards will be happy to let you trade with them.

The lanyards run $2-3 or.....you can have even more fun by making your own before you leave home!

Word of warning.....those lanyards can get pretty heavy when filled with pins and uncomfortable to wear around your neck all day. Use them wisely!

HAVE FUN!

Oh thanks for the advice. Is it hard to find people to trade with? Is it really not worth messing around with? I just want something fun for the boys to do while waiting in line, thought that might be the thing. Any ideas???

I agree with Brer Stitch. It's a great idea to buy pins at the Disney Store on sale and use those to trade. I bought a few pins when I was at the parks, but I wouldn't have wanted to trade them anyway, I picked out only ones that I really liked.

Another good idea is to buy a pin trading starter kit (not sure of the price). They have them at most pin stands. You get the lanyard and four pins, but you get two of each pin. So you keep one for yourself and have another one to trade. I thought that was a neat idea.
