Disney Parks--Oklahoma!?!

In a semi-related notion, does anyone else think Oklahoma looks out of place (borderline ridiculous) in that list?

Mexico .. Turkey ... Greece ... Oklahoma :lookaroun

Being an Oklahoman, no I think the list makes perfect sense. They're all economic backwaters for one thing. Or is it corrupt governments they were going for? Just a joke, not dissing my home too much. We actually have great weather year round, except for a couple of short-lived bouts of harsh weather in the winter. You'll see more days in the 60s here in Feb than you will in the 30s. And, we may be in the middle of nowhere, but we're a single day's drive from the Rocky Mountains, the lower Midwest, Dallas, San Antonio, and Texas beaches. Joke about corn all you want, but we have a low cost of living; friendly people; and plenty of opportunity to earn a very nice living (despite my economic backwater joke).

But no, a park isn't coming to my neck of the woods. Not until Disney builds that ever-elusive park in Branson will I believe a park in Oklahoma to be possible. (And, no, I don't believe a park is ever coming to Missouri either).

The announcement pertains to several items.

*) A new Park will be built in Oklahoma, connected to the existing parks at DL and WDW by high speed monorail trains, park hoppers will now inlude asmission for all of Disneys North American parks!

If we can't get monorail expansion here at WDW I doubt that could happen...

I think I see some sarcasm in your post now...:hammer:

The announcement pertains to several items.

*) Beastly Kingdom has been given the green light at WDW

*) Horizons is being brought back and will occupy a space where the WoL building now sits, behind this building a new pavillion will host the WoM, AE, and Mr. Toads. 20,000 leagues will be placed in World Showcase Lagoon as they could not afford to build a new water feature for it.

*) A new Park will be built in Oklahoma, connected to the existing parks at DL and WDW by high speed monorail trains, park hoppers will now inlude asmission for all of Disneys North American parks!

*) All resorts, parks, shops, and points of interest at Dl and WDW will have monorail connections built.

All of this work is to be completed by Oct. 1st when all Disney Parks worldwide kick off an official and year long celebration for Epcot turning 25. As an added bonus the park will once again be called EPCOT Center. To commemorate this celebration the LaL area will be expanded 100 fold and will be the second manmade structure visible from space.

Spare us.

i dont think so. They have been rumors to build one in Texas also. Don't get your hopes up.

Not to bring up the Texas thread again but "IF" and yes I wrote a big IF there was ever to be another park in the US it would be in Texas. The population, money, land, would point toward Texas being the place. With that being said I still don't think Disney would plunk down the billions for a park outside of Florida.

Most Interesting...Even though it's beem disproven I would like to see a park in OK.Perhaps a more western based Disney's America would be suitible.:)

I would love to see another theme park built on any existing land left in Florida with a US history theme. Sort of an EPCOT but with US history, really educational and wonderful like EPCOT is.

That was the Proposed Disney's America over Virginia, that part of it survived as Disney's California Adventure. (hey is the best way to recycle, no?)

Back in the 1980s, there were many rumblings about Disney contemplating a park in Oklahoma, with its moderate weather, available land and central location.

Moderate weather? I dont call being riddled with hail and tornadoes three months out of the year moderat weather....

Rumors seem to surface every few years about a Disney park being built in this part of the country (I live in Missouri). As convenient as that would be for me (Which should, of course, be Disney's #1 priority.), I don't see it happening. They would have to close down for most of the winter- nobody wants to ride Splash Mtn when the high temp for the day is 20.

Plus, in Oklahoma, you have the added fun of a lot of tornados!

I could see southern Texas happening- somewhere that's warm year-round.

Here's the official press release from the website of Oklahoma Dept. of Commerce and Tourism.....Fooey...most likely scenario wins.

July 31, 2007 -- Governor Brad Henry today announced that Walt Disney World Resort has invited the State of Oklahoma to be the first state-dedicated marketplace experience at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival this fall.
Epcot will mark the 12th year of the festival, which is hailed as one of the longest and largest food and wine festivals in the world. This year's festival will be held from September 28 to November 11 at Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and features cuisine from across the globe, a spectacular live music concert series, and exciting demonstrations and seminars from Disney and celebrity chefs.
"In the year of our state centennial celebration -- a year in which we honor our state's storied past and look ahead to a limitless future - it is truly exciting that Oklahoma has embarked on this unique opportunity with one of the great hallmarks of American entertainment and recreation, the Walt Disney World Resort," said Governor Henry. "This year's festival provides an unparalleled spotlight for Oklahoma, and will bring our state closer to festival visitors from throughout the world."
