Do they still have the oyster tank in the Japan pavilion to where you can get a real pearl? I did not know they had this.

Has anyone done this before?

Yes, they still do it in the large gift shop in Japan.

Yes they still do it in the big shop below Teppan Edo. I have heard it is a lot of fun.

So much fun. Read about it on a thread here. I had a 7 1/2 mm pearl and the girl before me had two pearls in one oyster. It's going to be a must do on our next trip too!

Yes, however these are cultured pearls.

They even have one in the DTD Marketplace. I believe it's still there. Got one a few years back.

My wife has a pair of earings that the kids "picked" for her, and my sister got a necklace made. The CM's make a big deal out of it and put on a great show. Then you can either take your pearl home or they will make jewelry out of it. The pearl itself is like 15.95 or something, then the jewelry goes from silver to gold. You can get just silver posts or small necklace from like $20 or spend a few hundred on gold. We always stop in to watch even if we are not getting a new pearl. Awesome experience!

My daughter and I did this back in October. It was great. Her pearl was huge and I ended up with a rare silver/gray one that they made a really big deal about. We are doing it again when we are there this week!!!

I agree, Japan has them all beat with friendliness. The CM's are wonderful.

I have boys, so they're really only interested in "watching" it, especially when the CMs make a huge deal out of it!

When Epcot first opened up they actually dove down in a large pool and pick the oysters off the bottom of the pool I have my mother's and mine from our visit in the 80's I have since done it many times at the gift shop in Japan. My husband also gets involved in the choice of oysters. Cant wait to go again in Sept.
