When I was younger we would take trips to WDW about every 3 to 5 years. Now my family goes almost twice a year. I think my obsession started when I was around 15. That's when we started going more frequently and I started to get postWDW depression when we would arrive home.

For me it was a very gradual thing. I'd been once as a small child. I'd been to Epcot in high school. I remember enjoying myself both times.

It wasn't until we went on our honeymoon a couple of years ago that I caught the bug. My wife was a huge Mickey fan and had never been. I thought I'd be making a pretty big sacrifice by taking her to WDW because I really wasn't into it.

Turns out I enjoyed it much more than she did. She still loves Mickey but isn't overly excited about WDW. I look forward to taking our new daughter as soon as possible (but probably not before she's 5).

When we left WDW, we were both a little burned out on it and I didn't think I'd ever really want to go back. But a few months later I started to really want to and that desire just grew and grew. Now, here I am on Disney forums absolutely fascinated by all things Disney.

Who whould have guessed?

Believe it or not, I have only been to WDW 2 times. The first time was about 5 years ago, then my wife and I went there on our honeymoon together last year. Since then I have been hooked beyond belief.

You can't walk into any room in our house without finding some kind of Disney book or magazine. The more I read, the more I can't wait until our next trip this coming November.:sohappy:

I always wanted to go to the World my entire life and finally was able to go when I was 17 with my school, 16 years later I finally got back this year and have been obsessed ever since. Needless to say I am going back next year :)

Reading all your posts I'm realizing that we all became obsessed as we got older. It just makes me laugh because those who have never been say it's for kids.

For me, the addiction part came after my first trip back to WDW as an adult. The obsession part came when I created my WDWMagic account... :lookaroun :D

That is true.

I think kids kind of take WDW for granted a little bit. They are still in their childhood obviously. So fantasy and magic come easily for them.

We grown-ups need a little more help I guess. So someplace like WDW that can help us recapture some of that childhood wonder is something to become obsessed about.

Just a theory.

My "Happy Place"

My love of WDW started when I was 3. My parents were divorced and it wsa horrible. Families fighting constantly and here I am, a 3 year old not knowing what's going on. ANYWAYS...my grandmother decided to put me in the car and drive to Miami (from Buffalo, NY) to see some family. She wanted to stop and see WDW because she had taken my mother to Disneyland in the 60's. We stayed at the Contemporary that first time in 1978. I'll never forget it because I fell off the monkey bars and hurt my knee! We went back every year for two weeks from the time I was three until I was about 13. At that point we went to Bermuda one year, Disney the next until I was in college. At that point I was on the WDW College Program and even asked my wife to marry me on the hammocks on the beach of the Polynesian as the first works went off over the Magic Kingdom!

It has been my happy place for as long as I can remember and will continue to be!

In 2001 I asked my then boyfriend to go to WDW with my family for XMas. He said "it's for kids, why would I wanna go there?" Well, he went anyway. When we came back home he was already planning to go back for 2 weeks. It's amazing how his attitude towards WDW made a complete 360.
Krueg - I love that you call WDW your happy place. My bestfriend and I call it that and people often say "what?".

Actually, I did the Disney College Program (and met my fiance there!!) and after working there and dealing with "disney freaks" all day at the store (Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in MK) I thought "who are these weirdos? I'LL NEVER BE LIKE THAT!" I couldn't fathom why someone would want to take multiple trips a year to Disney. Then we came home. And the depression set in, I missed it so much! We go at least once a year, twice in the past three years. And, we're getting married there next fall! :)

That is a lot like my experience. The wife and I would come across "disney freaks" and we had quite a few laughs at their expense. I remember one guy making such a fuss over everything in the gift shop with Steamboat Willie on it. We thought he was crazy.

Now my wife thinks I'm crazy. Course I'm nowhere near as bad as "Steamboat Willie" Guy - I hope ;)

I think I realized that I was enamored with WDW when I was watching old home videos of me when I was 3 years old dancing around Main Street USA.

Yeah, I even had that Disney spunk back then. :animwink: :D
