We went there last year and it is amazing. The museum is closed on Tuesdays so plan around that. It is located in the Presido area, which is also where Industrial Light and Magic (aka home of Star Wars) is and there is a fun Yoda fountain located in front of the building and some neat Star Wars stuff in the lobby you can look at. So it is nice to do a quick stop there on your way to or from the Disney Museum if you are interested in Star Wars. The Disney museum also has a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge too. We spent about 3 hours at the museum and we read basically everything and did most of the interactive stuff too. If you are a AAA member I'm pretty sure there is a discount; I'm pretty sure we used ours to get a discount.
So that's what happened to the old Presidio....I wondered why ILM moved from Marin to SF.

Will you have a car? It seemed like it would be fairly easy to drive there, but if you're traveling by bus (as I did) you'll need to bring your sense of adventure. 
The Presidio is not a neighborhood, it's a park-like area with foot paths and twistey turhey streets. It's all very nice, but not the easiest to navigate.
It's wonderful though. I loved the museum and the adventure of getting there! Enjoy!

If you decide to go on the 30th, there will also be a free showing of Shakespeare in the Park (This year's play will be Taming of the Shrew) across the parking lot from the museum. Even then, there shouldn't be any problem finding parking.
