I'm sure this has been discussed and answered before, but have the Studios in WDW become Disney Studios offically or are they still Disney MGM Studios? Sorry if this has been discussed!

You right I just revied the tape and I missed that but the printed materials are the same as I said before. I did notice on the tape that there video still shows the Pirate chasing the wench

On Disney's planning videos, they digitally erase the MGM off of the studios' sign, if you look for it you can see it.

I dont think they erased it I think they just remover the MGM letters from the sign alltogether

On the park maps, its still says Disney-MGM as well. Personally, I hope they keep it this way. I've always called it "MGM" and I'm sure a lot of others do the same. If they change the name, it will just create confusion.

Although "Disney Studios" (and if they were to change it, I would prefer "Walt Disney Studios" like in Paris) sounds much more nice, keeping MGM in the name gives Disney the rights to a lot of different movies. Eisner and Frank Wells made an agreement with MGM/UA that let them use about 250 of their movies for the Imagineers to work with and put in the rides and everything. I mean, let's face it, Disney hasn't ever been known as a leader in famous live-action movies, and when making a whole theme park about movies, they would have to bring live-action in along with the animation theme. This allowed them to use Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain, and a whole bunch of others movies (and if they ever choose to make anythign with it, James Bond).

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think Disney needs to keep the MGM name if they want to keep all the rights to these movies. I think they actually had to aquire the rights to use their logo and everything. I don' t know much about this, but as long as they can keep using these movie titles, I wouldn't mind them dropping the MGM.

The license agreement was up, and that is when the MGM logo and wording was removed. The licens has not been renewed, but the period from the original agreement has been extended, and Disney has the ability and the repsonibility (what attraction is THAT from) to use the MGM logo and likeness.
