Which is why we're more likely to see them wear one at WDW. While I am against racism completely jumping to stopasianhate for that felt like a jump. Asians absolutely were and are targeted for covid, but not at all for the mask wearing. If anything we should learn mask practices from certain regions of the world.

What? Disney never forbid masks on guests. I would often see Asian guests wearing them at WDW
That not true Disney actually forbid masks along, it was and probaby still is policy. Disney policy was for no adult to wear a mask at Disney before this Covid situation happened. I myself was told to take a medical mask off in 2018 when I was sick.

I then fought it and was able to keep it on. The cast members were trained wrong. The rules were no mask by adults, meaning Halloween type masks. The cast members at that time took it to mean medical masks too. I had to fight it all the up through two levels above cast member. At least half a dozen cast member at that time were ready to throw me out for wearing that medical mask until a manger type position said no it's Halloween type mask we forbid it. I stopped wearing it as it was not worth the hassle because certain cast members were always on me even after the approval as they had no way to know.

I do not blame the cast members though, they showed me the written policy and they were right, it did not differentiate medical masks so at that time they were right to try to bump me out.

I suppose I am slightly confused. Either they were trained wrong or the policy was different. I know people who wore them last March before the shut down with out issues and I know I've seen them rarely before. Though most who are sick do not usually travel unless it is a bucket list thing so most wouldn't go there anyway.

The mask policy is under attire and wearing costumes though, so to me it's pretty obvious why it's there. No adult to be confused for a CM.

First people wear masks back then and now like I did not because they were so sick they could not travel, but they simply do not want to give their family their cold. That is all it was for me, I traveled with 6 kids at that time. There are others that wore the mask before Covid as a preventive measure and not being sick at all. WE will see a lot more of that now than then in the USA I am sure.

The policy was no masks and I agree to me it is all about Halloween masks. Still, anyone could read the policy and think it meant a medical mask. It does hide my identity just like Halloween mask and I believe that is the reason I Halloween masks were not and are not allowed.

Stores are going to go there and soon, they are going to start saying we forbid mask or don't shop here, if they want to lose business great(who know maybe they would gain in certain areas). All it is going to take is one robbery where the cameras could not identify the robber or killer even that had a medical mask on during the crime for that to be valid concern from a store owners perspective. And isn't it a concern?

ALL I did was state what happened to me. I mentioned training being wrong because they all could of been explicitly trained that hey we mean Halloween masks. When policy is written and says masks and I was wearing a mask and then the employee is told no he can wear that type mask, at that instant in time I felt heck, if the boss knows this and they don't then they were trained wrong. It's one thing or the other, you can decide that.

A medical mask hides my identity so when new policy is written I am not sure what rational they use to now allow medical masks, but not any other type mask, it surely won't be based on hiding ones identity that is for sure.

I don't care either way, I wont go back to WDW until no masks are required anywhere. I had a horrible time this last trip, heck I may not use my AP unitl the FP is brought back in some way either. We had better trips mid summer packed with people using FP+ then during the so called 35%.

I didn't mean to upset in any way shape or form. You quoted me when I really wasn't even talking about experiences with it and was curious. So I apologize. Though IMO if one is sick and not wanting to pass germs, they need to stay out of the park. So many don't do that.

So I was curious were they wrong and poorly trained or not especially since I had seen someone in one in the parks (though in a wheel chair). That was simply it. Sorry if I upset.

We're heading there shortly but outdoor masks were my hope to be dropped, and they are. I don't care about indoor much tbh.

Social distancing seems to be the issue that is no longer an issue. The relaxing of mask requirements is great, but, bring on the parades, fireworks, character interactions (to include character dining experiences) and stage shows. Some people wearing masks while in enclosed environments in an abundance of caution should be no issue.

There is a reason why Disney refers to “facial coverings” as the response to COVID and not “mask”. As far as the company is concerned they are two separate things. “Facial coverings” are a mitigation tactic, “mask” are part of a costume or concealed identity.

I stand corrected. I remember when I was there back in August, the signs like this one. And being told the above (more or less) by the CM on the dock when I mentioned a “mask” before boarding the Ferry boat.

You’re not wrong. It was Disney’s intent to always refer to them as face coverings and not masks. I’m not sure why they used ‘masks’ on the new graphic in GE. I expect that it might get changed out quickly.

Probably because in the popular vernacular, people call them "masks" and not face coverings. I've never heard somebody called an anti-face covering-er.

I share this opinion. There was a conscious effort by most companies to call them “face coverings” when we started wearing them. Because “masks” were associated with established workplace safety rules by the three and four letter agency’s. However, it went from a specific scenarios workplace safety initiative to a general population safety initiative in companies very quickly and a lot that I’ve seen have given up the battle and now put “masks” on their signs. Why, because it’s the term people are quickly used to and you don’t have to teach new vocabulary when this is a safety issue not a phrasing issue. Also, the CDC says “mask”.

Or they haven’t given in and changed, and it’s just a mistake. So who knows.

Correct. But it is still company policy that they should be referred to as face coverings. There’s many instances where Disney nomenclature goes against popular vernacular.

I don't disagree. I guess technically in the policy they should be called "nose and mouth coverings" since they don't cover your whole face.

I am not upset and if my post came across as that I 100% apologize! This is where posting and talking have their differences. If we were having a conversation we would be smiling and drinking coffee, beer or wine your choice and happily talking about our love for Disney and their good rules and not so good rules..

Oh good. I tend to take all caps as a negative, so I read your post in a different way than you likely meant. My mistake likely for misreading the tone! In person I am sure we'd have been totally cool!

What do you mean Disney has not so good rules? 😆
