I've seen some pictures recently of Disney Marathons and I was wondering where I could find some info on doing one? When they are hosted, how to be involved, what they consist of? I don't know anything about them so any info would be great! Thanks!

A marathon is a 26.2 mile run.

There are other running events hosted at the World throughout the year that might be slightly more your speed.

Haha, I know what the distance of a marathon is. I guess I should have elaborated more! I didn't know if there were perks to doing one (hotel stay, etc.) or qualifications. I'm in the process of losing my baby weight and am starting to do sponsored walks/runs with my mom. A Disney one would be a GREAT reward and challange if I reach my ideal weight! Thanks!

You can also get some good information on a site called disneyrunning.com. We participated in the marathon this year and it's always the second weekend in January (half marathon on Saturday and full marathon on Sunday... you can also sign up for the Goofy Challenge which requires you to complete both races). We also did the inaugural Expedition Everest Challenge which was in September and consisted of a 5K run, obstacle course and scavenger hunt in the AK.

For the marathon you have to maintain a 16 minute per mile pace and the biggest perk to doing it is finishing and showing off your Mickey Finisher Medal. Also, the route winds through all four parks and you have the opportunity to stop and take pictures with some characters along the way!

The cost is around $120 per person for the half and full. And if you're interested in the half, registration usually closes sometime during the spring (april/may). From what I'm aware of, you don't get any hotel deals for the marathon; however, for the Everest Challenge there were two or three on property hotels that were considered hosts and there might have been a small discount for guests, I'm not sure.

Good luck :sohappy:! I'd recommend it to anyone who is up for the challenge.
