Yep, it was a property-wide power surge. My roommate works at coaster and she came home telling me about it. Apparently they were down for about 35 minutes.

It's an iphone app. It lists all the wait times for all attractions. Updates and refreshes constantly. Pretty cool. Also tells you how far you currently are from a specific attraction. Like right now, I'm 1,937,589 yards away from Space Mountain.

That app is not always accurate anyways. It's more of an estimate on things.

Well that does it, close all those attractions UFN until they are fixed to never break down again!

How come it always seems to be the good rides and never things like "Living with the Land" or "Stich's Great Escape"?

So you just assumed it was maintenance issues even though nothing said that?

Also Barnstormer technically isn't officially open yet, it can close at any time during soft openings.

Gee, I'm sorry. I should have just assumed it was a property wide power issue. They're so common.

All Maintenance teams run independently from all others, i.e Magic Kingdom Engineering, Polynesian Engineering. And some have better reputations than others. Some have horrible reputations, on things like follow-thru, passing the buck, laziness, etc. Magic Kingdom is one of these teams. Cast Members that deal with them roll their eyes when you mention you have to call them for something. When I worked at Epcot this was not the case - they were really well respected. Keep this is mind next time you visit. You just may notice that if you ever come across an engineering issue it is responded to differently at each property. At Riverside, for example, your response time will probably be longer than normal because their engineering has to pargo in from an off-site location. Pop has a huge maintenance team (because engineering budgets are determined by number of rooms at resorts, not revenue). Contemporary has a lot of "old timers" that have been their for twenty plus years. They answer their calls when THEY want to answer them. ..and so on..

People are not even at the parks and they are complaining about things they have no control over?

Um, yeah, this is a Disney World message board. It's meant to discuss all things Disney, both good and bad. Not sure if you didn't get the jist of that when you signed up.

Considering Disney has their own resources in the matter they know how much power on the grids they use. Therefore, they do have control over it.

Stuff happens, but this kind of thing is under their power.(or apparently not wacka wacka)

Yeah but let's call it as it is......the negativity outweighs the positive here dramatically (and spare me the "we expect more thing"....it's tired). Too many people, like yourself, complain about things are beyond ridiculous on a consistant basis and are as negative as they come. So when people see the absurdity of the complaints and how it appears to ruin one's day it comes across poorly.

Let's not forget that people were complaining about the colors of the BATHROOM after the SM refurb!!!

You must not read many of my posts. I have plenty of good things to say about Disney. I wouldn't go there twice a year if I didn't love it. But the fact is, we all know how great the place is. It would be a very boring board if all we did is gush over the wonderful aspects of WDW. As I always say, if you don't like the "negative" threads, just ignore them.

This didn't ruin my day at all. I was simply reporting what I read on Undercover Tourist, no different then when the webmaster updates us on parks closing due to capacity or attractions closing. Not all information is going to be good news. That doesn't mean it's not worth posting.

I think the real issue is jumping to the conclusion that it was maintenance issues without obtaining the facts. When I saw the shutdowns it looked unusual and something odd must have occurred. So I checked things out and came across reports of the power problem. The lesson is to not jump to any conclusion when the causes aren't known.

That is exactly what people are doing. You can't say call it like it is and not take the less than great with the awesome news just because sometimes there is more negativity than not. When there is something good to report it is up on this site in full force too. You just don't notice it as much becuase it hurts when it is something you are passionate about(as we all are since we post on a message board for this)
It is just as easy to come on here and notice how there are 20 or so people applauding Disney for the fact of fixing something that has been broken on a ride. So both happen. People just notice negativity more. If this was not the way it was and people did not really call things as they are to the best of their ability than we would have either NOTHING but negativity threads or NOTHING but positive threads. There are an amount of both.

When someone complains. It is not them hating the place or anyone or anything. Just frustrated and it shows that they care.
