hmmm - I've tried similar tech when in Vegas to use my phone to open my room door and it's... horrible.
Half the time the players club app would forget who I was so I'd have to relogin and navigate to the reservation before getting in. I stuck with the "real" card.

I can see the phones working well in places like Disneyland but at Disneyworld, especially at the water parks and as roomkeys, the phones are going to be a huge hassle.

Hopefully it works well with apple watch.

There's also an entire group of people that refuse to use this kind of technology that they're cutting out. Heck I STILL have cab drivers think I'm trying to hack their credit card terminals when I use my apple watch to pay! :p

They are not cutting anyone out of anything. MagicBands or physical card media are expected to work exactly the same as they do now. They are just adding ‘additional’ platforms to access your entitlements. You are not going to be required to buy and iPhone or Apple Watch, any more than you are now. But if you have those, and are comfortable with using them in that way, you’ll have the option.

That chlorine and direct sunlight, surrounded by children and clumsy guests... pass.

I mean, the screen is really strong glass or sapphire, it literally has a function to spit out water when you go swimming your laps in a pool. Apple says just give a quick rinse in warm water after you swim in a chlorinated pool and you’re good. I don’t know why children or guests or sunlight would be a big deal for the watch?

is this a sign Apple is buying Disney? I think not. Any Android users here. Loyal Android user, better than overpriced iPhone. Almost the same specs but way way cheaper.
It was interesting that the announcement didn’t even make mention that Android might be supported in the future. I imagine the fragmentation of that marketplace across all the variations of hardware and customized versions of Android OS like Samsung will make it a lot more complex vs the relatively homogeneous Apple hardware platform. There are simply far fewer variants of hardware they need to support for the first phase with Apple.

Then again, I’m not sure why this was just randomly dropped out there right now with ‘coming later this year’. It does have the feel of a message released for distraction.

Android support is definitely coming, but there are significant (beyond the usual iOS vs Android development differences) technical differences between how NFC credentials like this work in Apple Wallet and how they work on Android.

I don’t see the big deal here. If you are really set on Magic bands, they are only 5$ preorder price with onsite reservation, or 10$ otherwise?
In the grand scheme of money you’ll drop at WDW, that’s just pocket change.

OR, use an old band that we know we all keep , and set up your mobile phone with new feature to get pics on rides. Easy Peasy.

Then just ease into using more features as you vacation. Before we all know it, we will all be tech savvy.

techies gonna tech.

And that is absolutely a valid choice. But according to the manufacturer, they are perfectly fine in a swimming pool.

You obviously have zero clue about Apple Watches. I literally swim with mine everyday either at the beach or my pool. New models have swim exercise option you can choose from.
I’ve been in the ocean, pool, water park, shower frequently with my Apple Watch 5, never have had a problem. The only thing I’m concerned over is scratching it on the concrete in the pool.

Probably as the same amount of phones dropped when people walk and talk at the same time or use it to pay at grocery store or when they are doing anything at all.
And here’s a new opportunity to drop a phone. All I am saying is the more times you need to get the phone out to do anything just increases the chances of a drop that’s all. I am sure many folks will like this.

It also speaks of iWatch having the capability. I like that! It gives me an excuse to upgrade my iWatch. 😀

For those wondering why Disney wants to allow smartphones to enter a fastpass queue instead of charging you for magic bands, its so they can charge you $50 for a Journey Into Imagination fastpass.
