I might be wrong, but I think technically the property transporation system (busses, monorails) is supposed to be for resort guests only. They've always included it as a perk for staying onsite, so it's kind of implied that you have to be a resort guest in order to use it. I agree with you though that enforcing it would probably add to the time and inconvenience. I suspect that's why they don't enforce it.

Monorails are for the use of any guest (after all you have no choice but to use it to get to the Magic Kingdom unless you take the ferry - yet another form of transporatation). Buses are typically used by resort guests, but only because they are used mostly to connect hotels to the attractions - but they are free for anyone to use. Disney has no incentive to keep non-hotel guests from using their buses. Anyone boarding the bus is going to another part of the resort - to spend money... They want you eating at their hotel restaurants and shopping. And using a bus to get there keeps the hotel parking lots from reaching capacity, inconveniencing those who ARE staying there...

We'd stay at the Hard Rock Hotel as he's a musician and could use the room key thing to avoid long lines.

I stayed at the Hard Rock because I'm a music lover and my boyfriend is a musician and instructed me on everything to take photos of. Tell your husband to check out this site so he can see what cool pieces of memorabilia are at the hotel and the cafe.

The key card/Express pass was amazing to have! On our first day we spent 3 hours at Universal and did Shrek, Twister, The Mummy, Disaster and the Simpsons plus we sat down and had a meal at Mel's diner.

5 attractions plus a meal in 3 hours is pretty sweet
