Updated the chart (this thread's first post) with weekend Little Mermaid info.
TLM was a beautiful artistic success, but I guess you can’t have everything:

I’m offended that TLM has scored the same as Peter & Wendy? That movie was God awful and shouldn’t have even gone to Disney+

I forgot Pinocchio even released and that 28 RT says I need to see why happened there

Everyone's doin' it!!

I can only imagine that at some point they were seriously considering whether or not they could pull off a live action Madagascar, Shrek and/or Kung Fu Panda.

Since terrible ideas make bank, like The Lion King remake.

The Pete's Dragon remake sucked. Horrible-looking dragon, plus the kid's parents die in a car crash that we all get to see. Not exactly a feel-good film.

But talking about going from bad to worse...the Disney idiot known as Sean Bailey who's responsible for all the live-action atrocities is reportedly planning to make The Lion King a franchise like Star Wars...holy crap. More movies starring stiff emotionless talking taxidermy, yay. You know, I honest to god don't think Disney is salvageable at this point. It's full of hacks, misfits, box-checkers and freaks. If it crashes and burns, maybe something good, phoenix-like, will rise from the ashes. Pathetic.

Since you mentioned Bailey...

I'm sick of them, but I've tried to be positive about the situation. I believe you just have to see them as enitirely different versions of the same characters. Like with the new Little Mermaid, how none of the characters look like the animated versions. The same can be said about alternate versions of many characters throughout history like Sherlock Holmes and James Bond.

This article is a mess.

Disney likes the cash. The company also views Mr. Bailey’s remake operation as crucial to remaining relevant. Disney’s animated classics are treasured by fans, but most showcase ideas from another era, especially when it comes to gender roles: Be pretty, girls, and things might work out.
This feels like a slap in the face to the writers, animators and artists who made Belle much more than her beauty in the animated BATB.

And then this,

Consider his remake of “The Little Mermaid,” which arrived in theaters two weeks ago and cost an estimated $375 million to make and market. The new version scuttles problematic lyrics from the 1989 original. (“It’s she who holds her tongue who gets a man.”)

Are they forgetting those words are sung by the villain? Let's also not pretend the world we live in today truly values outspoken women.

It's so weird how they trash their past in articles like this when nostalgia is why Disney is revered more than other brands. At least the article leads with the box office $$$ because that is why Disney is doing the remakes. They are just dressing up their creative bankruptcy with social altruism.

I wouldn’t mind if they decided to do live action remakes based off any of the segments from the package films like the Whale who wanted to sing at the Met from Make Mine Music.

People have been clamoring for a live action remake of Melody Time, but the idiots running Disney just won't listen. Imagine a live-action version of the "Trees" segment. It would guarantee $1 billion at the box office!

Yeah, but I meant like turning a short segment like the Whale who wanted to sing at the Met into a full length live action film expanding more to the story of the film.

I think that was going to be a trend for many studios. Take a side character and create a story for that character or a prequel. Some have been successful, some have not. Worked for Puss N Boots. Failed for Buzz Lightyear. It's sad when even THAT is seen as a risk.

Personally, I have always wanted a trilogy of movies featuring Merida on completely new adventures to save her kingdom.

Yeah, but I’m referring to a full length live action remake film of the short segments in the package films since they’re the most underrated films.
