A bit more decor has been added to the rink

"Glisten!" Skating Show Rink Installed at Disney's Hollywood Studios for Jollywood Nights

So the viewing of this is going to be extremely bad. Really only the people right up against the railing will get a good view. Everyone else will be bobbing/weaving between the heads in front of them and the inevitable children on the shoulders.

It is not safe to do any elite level maneuvers on plastic “ice”— so I’m curious what international skating stars they signed up. Maybe ice dancers or skaters from the 1980s?
Back when I was competing, my coaches would not have let me used my real blades on this kind of surface… but I guess it would be trivial for Disney to buy them a set of special performance use blades. We bought Jollywood night tickets because I wanted to support the concept of skating in the parks, but what I’ve seen so far (along with the strange failure to disclose who the skating stars are) has kept my expectations extremely low.
It wouldn't be ice dancers either. Our blades are a bit different but not that different, we would still ruin them.

Sorry if I inadvertently cast aspersions on ice dancers! I meant that maybe it would be less dangerous to attempt some of the crowd pleasing but less technical dance choreography segments than the triples and quads most elite international freestyle skaters would be expected to put in a routine, to say nothing of spins—- even a single jump is dicey on plastic and I sure as hell wouldn’t be attempting twizzles. 😋

Sorry dance choreography segments are still complicated and would be dangerous just as triples and quads. No elite level skaters going to risk their skate blades on that ice if it's synthetic lol.

Didn’t mean to get bogged down in technicals, I think it already tells us what we need to know that they haven’t actually announced any skaters yet.

Final dress rehearsals for Disney Holidays in Hollywood are occurring after park-close.

Can see that they are utlizing the new updated tech in the Theater of the Stars that I previously reported about a couple weeks ago here
Thread 'New lighting/tech upgrades at Theater of the Stars for Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage'.

No kidding. I guess the surface is somewhat malleable, then?
I don’t know if all plastic ice technology is the same, but when I’ve struggled to skate on it in the past, high end blades absolutely leave grooves in the plastic. I think with duller blades it may not leave as much damage?

If I recall the times I've seen it at IAAPA, perhaps with exception of the non-ice curling product that appeared to be a different solution, that sort of plastic ice is basically the industry standard... Annoyingly.

I cannot believe the first day is tomorrow and we still don’t know who the “international skating stars” are. I’m in a hybrid state of excitement and dread.
