Disney in Vegas?

I have never understood the appeal of Vegas, and I never will. The absolute last thing I think of when Vegas comes to mind is "family friendly" and I dare say that the majority of the American public feels the same way. Disney aren't stupid, they realize the negative connotation associated with Vegas and I really don't think they would risk not only the money but the reputation of the Disney company on any type of vacation destination in Vegas.

I mean, have you SEEN the what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas commercials? Nothing subtle there folks.

Although I agree that you likely would not see a resort in Vegas with the "Disney" name in it, dont put it past the Disney Company to have a resort in Vegas under some other company that it ownes.

Though a Disney attraction would definately be a great reason to return to Vegas, I don't know how well it would work. I was in Vegas in March 08 and the first thing I saw when we arrived on the Strip was a young girl falling down drunk and a full shot of her behind which her dress didn't cover! Doesn't really seem like a Disney-friendly place! I turned to my mother (it was a mother/daughter trip) and said "I think I'm very out of my element here!" :lookaroun

Possibly a resort for DVC - It's a big tourist destination and it would allow for better pricing with points rather than using one of their time share exchanges. (Kinda like putting a resort in Hawaii)

Actually Disney does own some property out that way. There are items in the MGM or were items in MGM casinos that were owned by Disney. One of the reasons that it took so long to get MGM off the name of the studios. They also are represented by an ESPN zone and a few other subsidiaries I believe. Just not an actual casino/hotel and I would think because of past relationships with MGM they would probably stay out of there.

There's another post that talks about places that remind people of Disney - and I posted that Las Vegas sometimes reminds me of Disney.

With the castle, and pirate ships, and shows outside all the big resorts - there's a lot of magic there! I've thought about Disney owning a resort before, especially since it seems like Disney owns something everywhere. But after giving it some thought, I decided that to succeed in Vegas, a resort needs to have a casino. Disney just doesn't promote gambling & drinking, as they shouldn't, since they are a market for children. If they tried to have a non-casino resort it probably wouldn't make it there.

It's an interesting concept though, and something I'm sure WDW execs have talked about. For me, it's best to keep the two kinds of 'magics' apart. :)

The negative far outweighs the positive. Vegas is just something they would rather just let go. If you can't see 400 local newspapers putting together comic strips in their editorial section the very next day -- none of them being flattering -- you surely don't need to be on the "Disney Futures Team".

It is a nighmare of an idea. Same reason that Veggie Tales doesn't have a Vegas hotel.
Although Larry the Cucumber -- I'll just stop right there.

I wish Disney was apart of this concept, but then again maybe they are!:drevil: They say that there is a themepark being built with this resort. Here is the link to the concept art. www.lasvegaswet.com If this is done right this will be an amazing.

I would think the most obvious reason for not having Disney in Vegas is because Anaheim is so relatively close as it is. No need for Disney to draw any $$ away from Disneyland.

I think there's probably room for one Disneyesque resort or attraction in Vegas, just like one Vegasesque resort or attraction would be fine in Orlando (I know gambling isn't technically legal here except on Indian reservations, but currently the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa kind of fills this niche). I could see Disney promoting either a resort or an attraction as a "get-away from the casinos for a day" in Vegas, and it might work.

I just think there are enough times when someone who is in Vegas who is more of a Disney person, or someone who is in Orlando but is more of a Vegas person would visit an attraction not typical of each area. At least enough business for a single attraction to survive in each place.

I don't think Disney would want to be associated with a city of vice like Vegas so I don't see it happening. Plus, I think it is too close to LA. What might work is a more traditional park with roller coasters and stuff, but I just don't see Disney doing something like that.

Vegas DOES have family friendly attractions. Excalibur has a jousting show, and the entire Circus Circus resort is good for kids. Also, let's not forget that Cirque Du Sole show with Beatles music. There's quite a bit for kids. That being said, I don't think Disney needs Vegas nor does Vegas need Disney. I think it'd be best for Disney to stay out of it
Mind you, if Disney ever wanted to re-try Disney Quest, THAT might work in Vegas as part of someone else's resort.

Gambling no. Drinking, well... (coughepcotcough)
