Disney in Unexpected Places!

So I was coming home from a long trip in Argentina. I was tired, cranky, and bored. As I entered the customs room, I noticed a couple of screens playing, showing a video of how to quickly get through customs. After that instructional portion, they played a patriotic video of (basically) a brief taste of America today, mostly un-narrated except for a couple of groups of people exclaiming "Welcome!" in a very happy sort of way. When I realized what music was playing, I almost had a fan-gasm: They played the ENTIRETY of the Illuminations:Reflections of Earth music from the portion when the Earth globe starts playing video and spinning to the 1st finale (before "We Go On")!!!!!!!

Anyone else have experiences like this?

I do remember hearing about that before...

I was living in the Philippines for 2 months and in one of their (huge) malls, they had a scene with mickey and minnie (just cutouts) in front of a house scene that you could take photos with.

I have three unexpected places to mention here..one has a picture.

1) During a trip to House on the Rock in Spring Green Wisconsin as you go through the Organ room there's a new food area called Inspiration point which has a bunch of Quotes from Inspired people..One being Walt Disney and his quote "It's Fun to The Impossible." Not only was it on the wall but also imprinted into the tables.

2) Inside the Mcdonald's at Water Tower Place as you enter inside go directly to the right side of the counter there's a few pictures of Famous chicagoan's...One Being Walt Disney.....Seems kinda odd now that the Mcd's contract ended and he's up there...(But let's not go into another debate about that now) Onto Numbah 3!!

3) This one is interesting. But if you ever head to The Museum of Science & Industry out here in Chicago there's an exhibit called Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle.. Which is a A huge Dollhouse that was created by Colleen Moore. She was a silent film actress in the 1920's..During her time of popularity she had many celebrity friends..One being of a man named Walt Disney...And he gave her a special piece of work that now resides inside the castle..and since it's dark and lightly lit inside the display area you have to look closley in some cases this would technically be The First Hidden Mickey..If you think about it..See if you can find it!

Yeah, I remember that a few years ago. The TSA and DHS (Dept of Homeland Security, not Hollywood Studios. ;)) had contacted a number of businesses and groups in the customer service and hospitality fields (Disney being the biggest one) to brainstorm and gather advice on how to make the arrival and customs process through US airports more welcoming and enjoyable for first time visitors. The video was the most obvious change, in addition to staff training, new layouts and signage, and standardized forms and procedures for entering and exiting the US.

Nice to know the vid is still playing...I was beginning to think they got rid of it.

Wasn't the Walt Disney Company actually brought in to train staff on how to greet people entering the country?

Eitherway it has worked, the staff are much more friendly at the Air Ports now when I have my passport stamped. :)

Yes, new training for customs and TSA staff was one of the results of the program. :)

Awesome. :)
My neighbor has a bunch of Disney character murals in her backyard, if that counts. :-D
And every time I watch Back to the Future, the music reminds me of EPCOT and I get in my "Disney Mood" again. :P

I guess this isn't totally unexpected, but I'm a dance teacher and I always get soooo excited when one of my students tells me they are planning a trip to Disney! There was one family a few years ago who told me around Christmas time that they were planning a trip for the following October. Every week when they came in the mom would update me with what she had been doing- what hotel she booked, what dining reservations she made, etc. I'm such a Disney dork, I loved hearing about her trip! When they finally went on their vacation, the first thing she did when they got home was email me a link to all their photopass photos. Not even my kids and I loved looking at every single one!

Just heard a reference to The American Adventure in Epcot on the radio and how the quote of an immigrant to this country is displayed in the pavilion. Gotta love how these little Disney things pop up. :)

I saw a guy wearing a monorail shirt in Target a few weeks ago.

Also, I work for a large company and we recently started receiving emails where we "get to know" the executives. They basically write a paragraph or two about themselves, and the first one was a man who called himself a "Disney nerd" and said he takes his family to WDW every year. It excited me

I mentioned this in another thread recently, but there is a pizza place just up the street from my home (in northern CA) and I noticed that on their take out menu, it says "Kungaloosh!" in tiny print at the bottom of the back page.

cmdr_Crimson...How funny that I completely forgot about all those things you mentioned! And being a former Chicagoan, Of course I have seen them all as well!

I am an MSI Fairy Castle freak, and I noticed that sometimes they move the little paintings in the Ballroom. One time the Mickey and Minnie was actually missing! The security said it was beacuase they sometimes have to clean and restore the artifacts.

And Walt Disney's signature is part of the tiny autograph book the castle has too...though I think they keep that int he museum safe now!
