Incase anyone is still wondering if they are going to build a theme park in X city... they arn't. It's probably people hyping rumors to increase property value :)

If you live in Brunswick County you may have heard the rumors that Disney is looking to build a theme park there.

Real estate agents say the rumors have been circulating for close to a year and have been fueled by sales of large parcels of land recently in Brunswick County.

Those rumors are unlikely.

The folks at Disney won't confirm or deny plans to build in Brunswick County, but say rumors like these pop up all the time in cities all across the world.

Disney's CEO has recently stated publicly that his company has no current plans for a new theme park in the United States. If they decide to build one China has been discussed as a top possibility.

too bad. I've thought several times that Disney ought to build something - a "halfway house" type mini-resort along I-95 near Fayetteville, which is the halfway point between NYC and WDW. Even if all it was was a resort/restaurant complex where you could buy your park tickets and stop overnight to split your trip.

Such rumors about Disney building a theme park resort in the Wilmington, NC area do not surprise me a bit! There had been somewhat of a film/TV industry in the Wilmington area off and on for the last 20 years, which peaked in the mid-to-late 1990's. Many movies and TV shows have been made there, though this has declined a bit since the late 1990's. The TV shows Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill are/were filmed there, as was the pilot epsiode of Touched By an Angel. This, as well as its close proximity to the #2 rated vacation spot in the U.S., Myrtle Beach, SC (71 miles southwest of Wilmington) make this rumor quite predictable! :animwink:

More about the movie and TV studio in Wilmington, as well as the film industry in this area in general, can be found at the link I enclosed below:
