I am in the process of planning a trip to Orlando the week of April 21. Can anyone give me general observations about crowds and weather? It seems like a good week to go, but i have heard some say it could be a prime season.

I know that week is Mass. school vacation week. The following week is NH's. May not seem like a big deal but you'd be surprised how many people head to WDW! We planned to go around that time but our kids aren't in school yet so we pushed it out to the first week of May. We went this year in late April... crowds were heavier than I expected but still ok. Weather was high 80's, sunny and humid. Not a drop of rain the whole week. :)

Edit: Just saw you're from NH.. so obviously you know when vacation is!!

I've been in April before. The parks aren't going to be empty, but it won't be anythink the summer/holiday times. The thing that made me say, "never again" to April was Grad Night. Since we were staying at the Poly, we could hear the fireworks at 1:00 in the morning, and the testing of the fireworks at 4:00 in the morning the night before. Not to mention the many large groups of teenagers in the parks.

As far as April Spring breaks go, as some have said, most of the northern schools are out at that time, but if you go in March, most of the Southern schools are out. This year we went the first week of May and I really liked it. Good weather and managible crowds.

The past two times ive gone have been in Mid-late april, and the only bad thing i can remeber about it was that it just got a little to hot in the afternoons. the parks were crowded, but not insane. i tihnk the longest line i had to wait in was an hour n half for splash mtn, but everything was else was less than an hour, without fastpasses of course. I think its a great time to go, if you dont mind people and some sunshine

Abort! Abort!

We just got back from our trip this April ... It was horrible! It was hot ... The lines were ridiculus ... All the people with their matching shirts ... and the teenagers ... and Its GRAD NITE ...

I would not recommend it ... Im sticking to October from now on!

OH NO!!!!!

I'm going to be there from the 14th - 25th. Is it really going to be that bad? I booked it then thinking it would be a good time because it wasn't easter and I had heared that grad night wasn't too bad. Didn't realise that all the schools will be on vacation round then either.

Am I really going to have a bad time? (well not bad, just less pleasent than if I went in May)

I mean we survived ... but it was really tough ... and stressful. One time we got stuck in the RnRC line for 2 hours!

Another episode was that I waited forever in a food line just to get some sort of food and I was behind all these kids with NO CHAPERONE ... and do you know that when the 10 kids left ... that it was all one order on one tray!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was gonna kill some teenagers that day ....

I think there must have been a band thing going on too ...

Just take it slow and you should get through it ...

It depends on when Easter is in 2008. (and I don't know offhand)
We went two weeks after Easter this year and had NO trouble, NO (significant) lines and PERFECT weather! (Only used Fastpass twice in 4 days because it simply wasn't needed)

As long as you go a few weeks after Easter, that crowd will be over and the memorial Day crowd will not have started yet.

We went the last week in April for the past two years. Not my favorite time to go, but it was okay. It was starting to get pretty hot. Crowds were medium....not as bad as summer and holidays, but worse than when we went at the first of December. And I agree about grad nights....both times we went in April there were grad nights. We will never do that again....mainly because the MK closes early on those nights for the general public. April would not be my first choice (early December is my first choice), but it is MUCH better than going in the summer or over a holiday. Easter is in March this year, so you will miss the Easter crowds. And by April 21 you should not have a problem with spring breakers either. As long as you plan your trip around grad nights or at least know about them ahead of time so you can plan to do other parks that day, you should be fine.

We were just there April 22-29 and it was pretty warm the entire time however, the humidity wasn't really a problem. The kids were able to use the pools everyday and we also had a blast at Typhoon Lagoon one day during the middle of our trip. It was definately shorts and t-shirts the entire trip but, I think 1 or 2 nights a light jacket was necessary. The crowds were manageable, sometimes the waits were a bit long but, not unbearable.
Oh, I forgot about Grad nights, they are a pain because many of these schools are there for the weekend and these kids are in the parks unsupervised. Granted, when they are in MK for Grad. night the park is closed to all other guests but, these kids go to other parks during the day and they run WILD! There was also a cheerleading competition at the time we were there and these kids are also running WILD in the parks unsupervised (however, the cheerleaders are much more behaved then the foreign tour groups that invade WDW in July and August). Try not to stay at the All-Star resorts during that time because that is where these groups of cheerleaders and unsupervised teens are staying, if you can afford it, just avoid the value resorts all together.

I usually go in April and I have never had a problem. Love the weather then. This years Grad nights are 18, 19 & 25, 26 of April. Also because Easter is earlier this year our spring break is in March. I have a bus trip 55 people for the 6th - 12th. Good luck everyone!
