Okay, I'm currently attending college and majoring in 3D animation. I'm just on an Associates degree program right now but will continue my education past that. Disney recruits for their college program at this college and it is one of the reasons I started going there.

I've worked in entertainment type jobs for a good portion of my life and also play in a working rock band. I'm gearing up to sign up for the Disney college program next year and hope that I can get on board with some aspect of Imagineering or ride design of some sort. I'm trying to start with the animation aspect of my education since I've been told it's a good base to build off of. I excel at pretty much any job I've worked and usually almost always end up in leadership positions. I've also been a self taught artist for several years. I'm currently the lead animation/keyframer in our animation class' project and I've done set/scene design at the biggest haunted house in Dallas, TX (until it closed down this past year). Needless to say, Disney is a place I aspire to work for.

Anyway, that's some background. Now, I'm a guy and I have long hair. I've heard conflicting stories on whether or not Disney forces the males to cut their hair. Disney is one of the few companies I'd do it for, but I'm just curious about it. Mine is exceptionally clean and I tie it back for my current job. As I said, I'm going there either way, but I'm curious what to expect regarding it.

And I'm only about a week away to heading over to WDW for a few days to have some fun...

I think people are always more receptive to "tidy" haircuts. I think anyone "on-stage" has to adhere to the "hair code."

Yeah, you're gonna have to cut your hair. It's unfortunate because a lot of guys with long hair have beautiful hair and are sensible enough to know to tie it back when working. But Disney makes you cut it. I don't like short hair on guys lol.

It depends what department you work for. Park and resort roles that are not Equity, yes, you'll have to cut it. But if you worked for WDI, or some of the offices in Chicago, Burbank, Glendale, ect, you might not have to. Just depends. Have you seen Joe Rhode?

Yeah, Joe Rhode was what led me to believe they might be a bit more loose on it than some may perceive.

But if you start at WDW you would have to cut it...then later down the road if you get into Imagineering, they aparently have different guidlines. The specific rules are: The hair can't go over the ears, it can't go over the collar in the back and your sideburns can't go past the bottom of your ear. No facial hair unless you have a mustache that is fully grown on time of empoyment. The hair must be one solid natural color. And then you have all the peircing/tattoo stuff. But thats the Disney Look in a nutshell for working at WDW.

Good to know. Don't have any piercings or tattoos so I won't have to worry about that. I do have a goatee, but I can always shave the bottom bit.

You can learn more about the DISNEY LOOK at WDWCOLLEGEPROGRAM.COM AND WDWCAREERS.COM too-I think it even shows examples of what you can and cant have.
