This is my first trip to Disney World where I will be able to bring my clubs and play a little golf with my dad. Was hoping there are some golfers on this site that could tell me which courses we should play in Orlando/DW! Thanks!

I've played both the Magnolia and LBV courses and here's my opinion:

Magnolia: a VERY long course that at one time hosted PGA Tour events. The overall layout is pretty straightforward with a few fairly challenging holes and water coming into play on quite a few shots.

LBV: this is a shorter links style course that requires a lot of accuracy. Water comes into play a lot and it's a very scenic course as it is built around the OKW Resort as well as waterways that lead guests into Disney Springs. Personally I enjoyed this course the most because of the scenery and interesting layout.

My dad and I actually took a Disney golf trip back in April and played all three 18 hole courses at WDW. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them but my favorite was probably the Palm. I’d say Lake Buena Vista next and then Magnolia. Like I said I enjoyed all of them but I ranked them in order of most fun. I think they are all challenging but its more of a fun challenge than a dreaded challenge. I shot a 92 on all three courses (weird, I know) but usually shoot in the mid 80’s at my course at home. I also rented clubs and shoes to play so that should tell you how difficult they are. The courses were in great shape and I know that they are doing some work now so I expect the courses to be that much better in the coming months!

Yeah I usually shoot mid to low 80’s but my dad shoots around 100. Doesn’t get to golf a lot but he enjoys it. Which do you think would be best for him? I’d like for him to have a good time even if he doesn’t shoot very well. Or are they all about the same? Thanks!

Whichever you play, pay attention to the yardages for the courses. The White tees (what I usually play) on the Magnolia are the same length as the tips on the course I play at home.

That said, as CLE said, Magnolia is long, but open - wide fairways, large greens. I have shot 90, I have shot 100 (I am a high 80s player). Magnolia also has the Mickey bunker on the 6th hole.

Palm is a little more challenging but shorter. Same deal as far as scores go.

LBV is the most interesting of the 3 as it winds through OKW and Saratoga Springs. I find it as the easiest of the 3.

When are you going? I subscribe to the Disney golf blog and they said that LBV will be undergoing bunker renovations through the summer. One set of 9 holes will be open at any one time. You can play 18 - just the same 9 twice. Prices during this time will be cheaper.

If you play Magnolia, check out some of the 'pro' tee positions, especially #8. For the pros it played out to 600 yards. When you get to 17, stand on the tee, look to the green, and imagine Tony Finau almost driving the green during the final match of The Big Break. Insane length.

You cannot go wrong with any of the 3. You will find a good challenge, and your dad won't feel over matched.
