Disney golf courses

So as much as I know about Disney, I just realized I know nothing about playing golf there. My bf loves to golf, and I told him that on our trip in November he could have a day to himself to play golf and relax. For those of you who have played in Disney, is there a specific course that you like best, hes an average golfer so it doesn't have to be the most challenging of courses for him to have a great time. Also I was doing some research on here and the last thread that talked about golf was back in 2008, they said that people get grouped together in foursomes and that you can book 90 days in advance for the tee time, is this still the case? I know on some courses golf carts are a must, is this true in Disney, he can't walk the course anymore due to 3 back operations. As much as I personally think its a waste to play golf when you are in Disney, he's pretty much going to Disney just for me, so the least I can do is let him golf.

My DH has played the Palm and Magnolia and he enjoyed both. If your BF can't walk steer clear of Oak Trail, it's only 9 holes and a walking course. This year my DH is choosing between Lake Buena Vista and Osprey, so I can't say anything about either of those.

I have played all 4 courses at WDW. Osprey Ridge is probably the most senics but also IMO the most difficult. The one course I have enjoyed the most is LBV. Also, look for tee off times after 3, Disney use to offer a very huge discount for late afternoon tee times, Like down around $25 for 18 holes. Carts are mandatory on all course except Oak trail which ahs none. The cart is included in the cost.

DH & my dad have played Magnolia & Palm. DH said Magnolia was more challenging, but he also liked the course better. It has a big Mickey sand trap. :) I rode along in the golf cart once for a small fee, it is a nice course. You can make reservations 90 days in advance, but a few weeks ago they made reservations 2 days in advance without a problem. I don't know if I'd bank on that though, I'm sure there are times of the year where they do fill up in advance.

Two times they were grouped as a foursome. One time DH played alone and was only grouped with one other person. That was the time I rode along. The other guy's wife rode along too, so that was nice.

I have played all four major courses at Disney. This is how I rate them.
1- LBV- very good course with different views all around. And if your BF can hit the ball straight he should be fine and dandy.
2- The Palm is nice a little more challenging but fun never the less.
3- Osprey- to me was the hardest, but it is very scenic course.
4- Magnolia- This course is right next to the Palm, but it seemed to me you hit one way on a hole and turned around and came back the other way each time.

Each cart should have GPS in it and you get free range balls and a few Disney ball tees for free.

Hope that helps.

Totally agree with your reviews although I have never played Magnolia.

Also, if your boyfriend is going to play golf, at certain times of the year they have discounts on playing two rounds. If he is bringing his clubs, they will store them at Bell Services until he goes to play. My husband keeps his clubs in the room. They give you a voucher for transportation to and from the course. With the discount, you don't have to play the same course, either. I can't remember which ones my husband played, but he really enjoyed them both and is playing again when we go in August.

The Palm and the Magnolia courses are the ones they used to have a PGA tournament on in the fall so if he wants to play a course the pro golfers have played pick one of thoses two. My brother who was an average player got to play the course that goes around Old Key West I think it is LBV. He got to the 4th hole and called his wife asking her to meet him on a tee box that was close to their room with more golf balls, poor guy lost about 15 balls that day, slice. He was more used to wide open courses.

I have played magnolia and palm. I am a very avid golfer and play regularly with people of all skill levels. Judging by your post describing your husband, I would say go with the palm course. I find its a bit more player friendly and it is beautiful.

If you are staying on property I believe club rentals are free.

I played at palm with some friends on one trip, two of them had played maybe 3 rounds in their life, they loved it. The one friend even shot par on one single hole and still talks about it to this day, he had a great time.

Be careful of gators! I went to grab my friends ball that was shot over the green on hole 15 I believe it was... I looked up to see a gator laying in the grass no more than 10 yards away. I ran pretty quick!

Thank you all for the responses. @Sans Souci I'll have to look to see if they are offering the 2 for 1 deal when we go, he would LOVE not having to go to the parks 2 days. @Killnme thank you for the break down of the courses, I'll have to let him decide, but I think he'll go with either the Palm or Magnolia just so he can brag to his friends about playing on a PGA course (the courses around here pretty much suck with the exception of Merion) @wardpr68 thanks for the warning about the gators, a co worker of his told him the same thing which kinda freaked him out, I think he may avoid looking for balls close to the water and just take the penalty.
