Cool, thanks- If anyone finds themselves staring at one close up and has a camera feel free to take some pics and make a note on here. Trying to paint up a scale model of one and need something to go by!

I have seen many of the Disney/RCID garbage trucks and dumpsters around the property I just never thought to take a picture. Next time I see one I'll try to get you a pic. They are really pretty plain. The entire truck is just that same green color. The only other thing is a white box on the door that says Reedy Creek Improvement District and has the RCID logo next to it.

Can I ask why you are making a model of the garbage trucks.

Many people make model cars, trains & airplanes, my interest has always been garbage trucks! With WDW being a favorite destination for myself, I thought it fitting to model one from there; just don't have much to go by other than memory!

Do they drop off their loads at local county sanitary landfills? Do they sort and recycle garbage?

My understanding is that the trucks take their cargo to Disney's Waste Processing facility, which is near the water treatment plant. There it is sorted and items that can be recycled are sent through the proper channels. The remaining waste, as I understand it is picked up and transported off site. But I am not sure about that last part.

This is the only thing I could find on the RCID site.

Solid Waste
The solid waste system consists of a fleet of vehicles for the collection and transfer of recyclables and solid waste, a solid waste transfer station, and a recyclable collections facility. The highly successful recycling system processes over 24,000 tons annually of aluminum, paper, steel cans, food waste, cardboard, and plastic containers each year. The District has been a pioneer in the use of sustainable technology to reduce the amount of waste requiring landfill disposal. Its programs extend beyond traditional paper, steel and aluminum recycling to include innovative programs such as food waste collection and concrete debris recycling. It sets higher landfill diversion targets for the future and encourages new programs and research. District policies emphasize the importance of efficient and environmentally sound waste collection and disposal.

Thank you for that information Peter. It's good to know that WDW sets a very high standard in its waste collection, recycling and disposal practices.

True, but I would love to see a mini castle riding down the street picking up garbage. LOL!
I don't know. To me that would just be tacky. The garbage trucks are not meant to be pretty they are meant to be functional and efficient.

I have never seen one...when do they pick up the trash? 4:00 in the morning?

Actually, while waiting for the bus at POR, I've seen them behind the fence picking up from behind the main building. They sneak around using the service entrances and back roads, I imagine. I don't think I've EVER seen one on the road during the day. I HAVE, however, seen the ERMCO electrical vans running around property, which always freaks me out because they're based in Indy - and we hire them as a subcontractor all the time here! I wanted to work for their WDW branch.....*sigh*
