Disney Fridge Rental

For trips longer than 10 days!

For those who are staying in a value resort, if you are planning to rent a fridge for you upcoming vacation you may want to think twice. Disney currently charges $10, plus a tax to rent a fridge at a value resort. For a 10 day trip that’s over $100! For those who are driving this tip is much easier and cheaper then renting the fridge from Disney.

You can purchase a small 1.7cubic inch mini fridge (larger than the Disney Fridge) at best buy for $59.99. That’s a $40 savings and you have the fridge for upcoming trips.

During my past trip I was visiting for 15 days. I purchased this fridge for $59.99 a week prior to arriving and shipped it to the Pop Century (I live in California). The total for shipping was $20.00 and the fridge arrived the day prior to my arrival. When I checked in I asked the front desk if I had a package waiting and had the fridge on my first day. On the last day I shipped my fridge back home to California for $20.00.

The total for my usage of this fridge was $100.00, over $50.00 less than the Disney Rental, plus I have the fridge for my Upcoming September trip. Just one more way you can save money on you Disney Vacation!

Along the same idea, we brought along a Koolatron, which is essentially a cooler that you can plug in. We drove, so we had plenty of room to take it along, plus we had cold drinks and sandwiches for the long drive. Mind you, we stayed at a moderate resort, so there was a fridge there, but this way we just had a bit extra fridge space, perfect for all the desserts we took home from restaurants. We were on the dining plan and usually just took the dessert home, since we were always too full from dinner to eat any dessert.

If you tell them it's for medication, you'll get the fridge for free - no questions asked.

Yeah, but if you don't take medication and you say you do, you go to Hell.

Seriously, I'm sure they have plenty of fridges, but the idea that someone might need a fridge for medication, and I lied to get one...don't want or need that kind of karma.

we drive so we bring a big cooler anyways. we pack lots of lunch meat and cheese and fruit and stuff and essentially have our kitchen essentials there in the room. it's easy and cheap. we get a bucket of ice every night from the ice machine to fill the cooler back up. lol. maybe that's lame... but hey, it works!

I bring my own fridge too...

Last year for our October trip, the boy was still taking a bottle occasionally but primarily to sleep. We wanted something that could keep milk cold in the middle of the night and not have to worry about whether or not we forgot to get ice, etc... I didn't want to pay $10.00 a night again so we bought this:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=235877-47224-FRTC03L5DW&lpage=none

It's currently priced @ $198.00, but we got it on sale for $120.00 or so and we've used it quite a bit since then... The beauty of it is the included freezer (actual freezer, not a 'frost zone). We can refreeze ice packs each night and use them in our soft-sided cooler to keep drinks cold for the kids throughout the day.

It also stands up in the back of the mini-van so no worries with having to lay it down and then wait for the oil to run back down into the compressor, etc...

EDIT*** Almost forgot... the last two times that we went we stayed at the All-Star Movies resort... Both times there was already a mini-fridge in the dresser/entertainment center/console thingy... Didn't ask for it, and didn't get charged... but then again we didn't use it b/c we already had the fridge/freezer that we brought with us...

If you're a gambler...

there are threads on another forum where you can sign up to use a fridge for free. Sadly, the one I signed up to use in May went AWOL this month. Since it hasn't turned up, we are considering purchasing a new one.

Obviously, if you make a yearly trip, purchasing might be a better choice. I wonder if Disney would store it for you if you book your next trip before the current one ends???
