10:21 EST Thursday
Walt Disney Television Animation Special Projects and ESPN are breathing life into the syndicated sports-oriented comic strip dubbed "In the Bleachers."
Working with the comic strip's creator, Steve Moore, Disney will create a number of 15-second animated shorts, which will run during select ESPN Original Entertainment programming. The first cartoon will debut during ESPN's newest show, "Around the Horn," which premieres Monday, Nov. 4.
Moore will serve as the executive producer for the cartoons, and character voices will be done by Disney animation veterans April Winchell of "Recess," Kevin Michael Richardson of "Lilo and Stitch" and Jeff Bennett of "Return to Never Land."
Created in 1985, "In the Bleachers" appears in about 200 daily newspapers across the United States.
