Disney dream came true

Had to post this, I apoplogize for the length.

We got back from the World last Saturday. For about 4 months my 5 year old son has had this strange obsession with Rock N Rollercoaster. He loves watching Youtube clips of the preshow, every time the Travel channel airs a Disney parks show he waits for the RnRC clips, and he's been asking everyone he meets if they've ever been on RnRC...you get the idea, a little obsessed.

Seeing as how he's only 5 and has a lot of general anxiety, he's terrified to go on the ride, not that that matters because he's not tall enough anyway, but he has been ACHING to see the preshow for some reason (who knows why kids gravitate towards certain things). So my wife and I bravely agreed to take him through the line to watch the preshow, after which we would excuse ourselves and not go on the ride. Well when we got to the line the CM told us our son couldn't even go in the building because he didn't meet the height requirement. I very clearly told him that he is not going on, in fact he is terrified of the ride and I wouldn't have been able to get him on it if I had to. He said it didn't matter, they can't risk him accidentally getting on the ride. I was raging at this point, I told him I would go as far as to pay somebody in charge to escort my son and I or my son and my wife just so he could get a glimpse of the harmless preshow, I told him it would mean the whole trip for the little guy. "I'm sorry sir." was the response. At this point my son with all the dignity he could muster, lowered his head and was preparing to take it with surprisingly more maturity than I've ever seen, my wife had tears in her eyes, and I was just seeing red. I asked 2 more CMs, told them both the whole story, same thing. I couldn't believe it, I remember looking right at them and saying isn't this the place where dreams are suppossed to come true?!

Now I was prepared for the top, we went in the exit and into the gift shop where we met a very nice women who sympathized with our dilemma. She told us to wait right there to see if she could go "make a little magic happen." She came back with another gentleman CM who kneeled down in front of my son and said, "Hey buddy, I hear you really want to see the band in the preshow." My son quietly nodded his head, still looking at the floor. The CM said "Well if you want to come with me, I'm heading in there and I know we can find room for you and your parents if you're still interested." It was like a Disney World commercial! My son's face lit up, my wife and I broke down and actually cried, and this amazing man led us through a backstage hallway until we got to the preshow room. We arrived just in time for the next group of people to come in and see it. After it was over he led us out the nearest exit, and when I tell you that that one moment made our entire vacation magical, I mean just that. Our family will never forget those two magnificent CMs who made our son's dream come true, and (parent's will understand this) saved our vacation from the heartache that would have definitely followed. You don't want to see an innocent child that has a genuine broken heart.

Even though I know their names, I won't post them, but just know that they really went above and beyond and did something that Disney is and should be based on, making dreams come true.

This is a great story, and I'm happy the kid got what he wanted, but I agree with Vader - those RnR CMs knew the rules, and were merely abiding by them. They don't deserve to get criticized for doing their jobs.

I believe in Disney magic because I've seen it a few times. No need to apologize for the length of the post. There's a message in it that we love. That's what keeps me going back to WDW. Rock On!!!

No need to apologize for the length of the post...it was worth every second! We I was 4 (my first trip) a CM escorted us backstage to meet Cindrella, I even got a kiss from Cindy herself! We told our Cinderella about that three weeks ago (from today actually :( ) and she had informed me that I grew quite a bit! That's why I love WDW :D

Im glad your son got to see the preshow! And what an awesome 5 year old, my niece would have not been that mature!
I used to be a ride operator (not at disney) and you wouldn't believe how strict they are on ride attendants and operators to follow the rules. Because although these are fun rides, people can get hurt.
I remember when I was 17, I was operating a ride that allowed guest to wait in line and then exit through if they werent allowed to ride or didnt want to. Me and five of my follow ride attendants were all suspended when two women sneaked a toddler on a rollercoaster by squeezing him between each other until he wasn't even visible. Just as the ride was going up the lift, we noticed a pair of small feet dangling between these two women and had to stop the ride and notify our bosses. They sent us home immediately. We were all upset because he was really well hidden, even out bosses didnt notice at first. We've had people who were told by the outside attendants that their children couldnt ride, then say it was fine and they would just wait in line together, then try to ride anyway and argue with us when they got caught. Those CM's most likely were concerned about the safety and possible punishments that may have happened to them if your son got hurt.
It is clear you had nothing but good intentions but not all people are as honest as you and your family.

I realize that, and believe it or not I'm not so much criticizing them for doing their jobs, I'm more venting at the fact that they as well as the ones who did, could have gone the extra foot for such a petty circumstance. That's the difference. We weren't asking to cut the line or get a free on-ride photo..my point is, if you can do what you can to help make a dream come true there, and it is within reason... try. Someone may just end up owing their amazing vacation experience to you.

Exactly, which is why I wanted someone to escort us. I would'nt ever dream they'd let him in alone if the rule is 'you must this tall'. I understand their rationale, but there's definitely more they could've tried to do for him, like inquire with their supervisor if they could help us. You'd think they'd be flattered that a family was willing to wait over an hour in a line and then not ride the ride! :-)

Aww, that is so sweet! I am in love with this story's ending! Im almost in tears!
It reminds me when I wanted to meet Mary Poppins! I was so obsessed with that movie, I watched it 2-3 times a day almost everyday for a year! I had to meet her. At first we were afraid we would miss out on her, and we did by just a few minutes as she was walking away. They said that she had been there for to long and needed to get back to the children. Luckily, she saw me and quickly signed my hat and gave me a huge hug and picture before she left. I was in tears if joy!
