Disney dollars

My FIL gives us Disney Dollars every year for Christmas and we always use them on our Disney vacation. You can use them in the parks and resorts. You can also use them at DTD but I don't think they are accepted at those shops and restaurants not owned by Disney (Rainforest Cafe, McDonalds, etc). We use them to pay for most of our meals. You use them just as you would cash.

Yep, as I understand it and have experienced myself, they are as good as cash anywhere in the World. Kind of fun, actually! We give them to my son when we go as a kind of allowance. It somehow helps with the concept that this is all you get, so don't spend it all in one place and ask for more. Also, they will exchange it right back to US dollars whenever you want, no questions asked, almost anywhere. So you don't HAVE to use them, but then, why wouldn't you? :animwink:

I just purchased them tonight from my local Disney Store at the mall for our trip in December. :xmas: My family thinks I am crazy but IMO, it's never to early to start saving for Disney!

Disney Dollars are my favorite! That is basically how I save most of my spending money for my upcoming trips to WDW. Its a great idea and its easier to put your money aside for your trip, you know you can't spend it anywhere at home. I gotta start getting mine for my trip in November..can't waitt!!!

Hi neighbor from South Jersey  That is EXACTLY what I was trying to explain to my mother and daughter after I bought mine tonight as they were laughing and making fun of me  I can't wait to show them this tread in the morning so they see I am not the only one who thinks Disney Dollars are a great way of saving money for a Disney trip.

My DH's cousin and his soon to be wife are going for thier Honeymoon and I just got the Disney Dollars for them as a shower gift and will do the same for thier wedding gift. I also buy some if I have cash at the mall, last year we used them for food. We were on the DDP and got breakfest with them. I also give them as gift to my cousins if you are going to Disney that year. Kids LOVE to get them. Nope you are not crazy, it is a fun way to save for the trip.

We buy them all the time. Since we go nearly every year in September, the years that we take my nephew (and this year, my niece too), we buy then Disney Dollars for every "event" from the time we plan the trip until the time we go....Christmas, Birthday, in the Easter basket, in a Valentine's card, the last day of school...... Just a few bucks here and there and by the time the trip comes, they have their own spending money. Nothing is worse then listening to "can I have this" for 9 days in a row! This way, they have their money (normally close to $100-$150) and can buy all the little things that they want. Seems that they go for the erasers, pencils and other under $5 items. Works like a charm, every time. :)

I bought and saved Disney Dollars for more than two years between visits. Last trip I had more than $600 saved. Knowing I could not use Disney Dollars anywhere but WDW/DL or the Disney stores really helped. It sounds kind of overboard, but I wasn't worried about running out of spending money.

The teachers that DH supervises at his school always give them to him for Christmas and end-of-the-year celebrations, so we always have at least one dinner down there that we use them for!

I use Disney Dollars on every trip. I buy them so I am not tempted to spend my cash before the trip since you can only use them at official Disney locations.

So neat to see others from the same area on here, knowing they have the the same love for disney as I do. Where in South Jersey are you from?
I think the disney dollars are one of the greatest things disney has come up with. I don't just bring disney dollars with me as spending money, just a portion of it is disney dollars...most is cash. Its fun, builds the excitement, what you don't spend you can save and put away for the next trip, and they make excellent gifts.
