Disney disappointment

Just got back from Labor Day weekend trip to Disney world. Stayed at the all star sports resort. I must say being annual pass holders for 3 years now I am quickly comming to the conclusion that 1) they do not care about pass holders 2) they just care about the almighty dollar 3) customer service is truly becoming horrible. Don't get me wrong not all cast members are bad but each time we as a family go to the resort it gets worse. I have an 8 year old daughter and one of the coolest things was the towel design or drawing that was waiting for you when you entered your room the last two times there's been nothing. The room was ok with the exception of the peeling paint on the shower ceiling that was about twelve inches long that tells me it's been there for a while. I know that it is hard to do repairs everyday on rooms but that peeling paint has been there for awhile as well as the rusty trim ring on the sprinkler head. The maid on Saturday never replaced towels or wash cloths and the soaps were gone and not replaced. Same for Sunday. We live in southwest Florida so we are used to summer thunderstorms and being involved in youth sports fully aware of lightning protocols. We were in the pool everyday in the afternoon when the lightning and storms started to roll in and my wife looks at her weather bug app and pulls up a tower 3/10ths of a mile away and it showed lightning at 2 miles. So she asked the life guard what was disneys Lightning plan the lifeguard said the shut the pools down at ten miles and that it was the head lifeguards call well I'll tell you the only time the pool closed is when it rained hard had nothing to do with the Lightning. We watched from our room which was just outside the pool and watched people swim as the thunder and lightning was all around us.
Up at the food court just outside on Friday night there was a marching band that had no less than two dozen pizzas. They were polite not loud just having a good time when they were done they cleaned up after themselves and stacked the boxes next to the trash. This was at 10pm at 10:15 the next morning they were still stacked there. Good thing the band picked up after themselves because the whole area would have been trashed also. Question do they ever wash the outside of the busses, monorails or boats ? Every time we go the boats and monorails look gross (5th trip ther this year). I don't expect it done everyday but come on. Ups every truck passes through a wash everyday when they return so it can be done. Lots of rude people but that's not disneys fault. Sad I look forward to all our trips but when I can get a room of property that costs 50 bucks and it's as clean and most times cleaner than ones on property. Thats sad probably won't renew our passes.

No, the rooms should not have mold and dirt in them, no matter what hotel you stay at. I have stayed at WDW 25+ times and have had mold in the bathroom when I have checked in. But the first thing I do is talk to management and get them to clean it. They have even traded out a mattress for me that was so lumpy it felt like I was laying on rocks, but I was nice about it when I talked to the manager and they fixed it right away. Things happen, either it gets missed(or someone gets lazy) whatever. But you need to say something, nicely, and not just complain about it after the fact on line. What are we going to do about it? I also always tip the maid a few bucks and we always come back to clean rooms with lots of soap, shampoo and towels. I can not stress enough that they are more then willing to help you if you are nice about things. If I have an issue I always smile and start with a complement and then ask if they could please do this for me. Works every time.

bingo!

Ok all of you are right. I'm wrong I spoke negatively about Disney. I guess it depends on who you are on this board if you are allowed share negative opinions. Spoke to manager they said sorry that's it. When lightning came we got out of the pool and went in as I said. I didn't talk about what's bad about the parks because I could write a book about that . The point about the added room price during peak seasons was about the fact that it may be classified as a value resort but when you pay 250 for a room just just because of supply and demand then that room should be 250 all year. Friends of ours were staying at pop century at the same time and they got towel art. Have friends there right now and guess what they got one too. People forget that Disney is not about the adults it was bilt for children and my daughter looks forward to those types of little things. This is why I never post on this site. People take what has been said and twists it around to create drama.

Clearly you don't understand hotel pricing.

And towel art will happen sometimes and not other times. Is that really a huge deal for you?

I will say the "magic" at the resorts has/and is continuing to disappear. My last few stays at Sports has left a lot to the imagination. Nearly everyday my room was not cleaned until close to 4/5pm which after spending the morning in the parks was a complete inconvenience. The check in, food court, and CMs at sports are now no different than any hotel (one star to four star). Honestly, my stay at Holiday Inn Express, even the super 8 has been amazing compared to sports. However, sports is still reasonable and I will still stay there. I no longer expect the magic - even the mousekeepers do not even speak like they used to in passing. The food court is even worst - those prices are ridiculous.

There are hundreds of rooms to clean, of course some are not going to get done until late afternoon/evening. If your room was cleaned and was done by the time most people would be getting back from dinner, I don't think there is anything to complain about there.

Also, you are staying at a value resort. That is the equivalent of about a motel 8 so I wouldn't expect a lot of "magic". The values are meant to be basic hotels with the convenience of being on property.

Check out Pop Century some time. My wife and I have been staying there on our last few trips and have enjoyed it quite a bit - far far FAR more than we ever enjoyed the All-Star Resorts.

Some of the value resorts can be quite magical. The All-Stars.... notsomuch.

LOL to compare sports to motel 8 is a long shot. However, I will say for the price people pay it is a easy rip off. I have said it many times before I will only stay at sports when I get a major discount (no more than $70 / night) which is about what I pay at a better super 8/holiday inn express.

Expect too much?
We came form UK expected so much going for moderate CBR. First room was bad. Called and got another miles better room. The emotions were so mixed maybe we were tired after the flight.
On seeing the first room our hearts sank, and the horror of being stuck in there after paying what we felt was a premium for the extra magic.
Next room everyone's face lit up, it was further from the facilities but we were happy.

Few days later photo from some friends at Port Orleans resort. Of a hammock for kids bear, left by housekeeping.
We'd been waiting patiently for the fabled towel work. Nothing. Meeting up they. Had little touches everyday form the staff. 2 weeks and we had 1'swan about 4 days in.It was great and a surprise and the kids loved it. But then nothing and they felt deflated.
I understand the time it could take and the expectation becoming the norm and I guess the staff not knowing who had what each day.

On the other hand had an issue with the safe and maintenance was onsite very quickly and fixed the issue.greta service for such an expansive site.

It wasn't worth the money we paid, but then I don't think I expected it to be.

In my never so humble opinion, if I was going to be staying in a value, possibly even in a moderate, I would just stay offsite. You don't get that much more for your money. I stay onsite and stay deluxe villa. I get a ton of space, good service, and huge convenience for going to/from the parks.

I can't afford a deluxe Villa, not even for a couple of nights. I could get a bunch of dinners out of that money LOL.

I think the moderates are great.

Sometimes we stay off-site as well, in fact we never even stayed on property until just a few years ago. Now we try to more often than not. The Disney Chase Visa rewards make it a lot easier.

We are annual passholders and stay at the All Star Sports often. We've had some genuine problems while staying there and management was very helpful. I think its funny that Disney removed all of the clock radios from the rooms. You have to ask for one if you want it. They said that guests were unplugging them and using their cell phones. Its funny they will keep the ironing board and iron, but remove the one room clock. I agree the rooms need some updating. But we are there for the parks and only use the room for sleeping and cleaning up.

Disney rooms are lacking in electrical outlets. I think as they remodel then need to add a few in places where someone would plug in their phone, night stand, dresser, etc. With so much technology now it is kind of ridiculous to not have more outlets in a room. Though we did buy a cute hidden mickey head charging hub and that works pretty well for us.

And that's what I have done too I use a portable plug extender. That's what they did they took out the clocks and are replacing extra plugs/port thingy. I saw a pic of what it looks like but I'll have to search for it. :)

Here is the photo of what they are in the process of putting because they took the clocks out at all resorts.

And here is a links of the places that had talked about it including on here...

Don't most wall outlets have 2 sockets? I know mine do. Why cant they plug the clock into one and the charging hub in the other?

going by your logic then if I only buy a base ticket to enter the parks then I should not expect the same level of experience that you would get if you purchased let's say a park hopper ticket because I spent more I should expect and get more.

Sorry, but this made me laugh because if you spent more on the Park Hopped your experience is different and you DO get more, You get the ability to leave the park that may be super busy that day and go to a different park that may have other activities that you like to do.

here is a question I understand the bean counter cost saving move of no longer doing the towel figures in the rooms. So I know someone calculated the dollar savings of no longer doing this. How do the bean counters calculated the guest satisfaction impact of not doing it? This is the problem when you are trying to improve EPS for wall street you start taking away the little things that add up to big things eventually.

Have they stopped this in only the value resorts or has it stopped sysytem wide?

Have not seen towel animals in either the Contemporary not Grand Floridian in years.
