News Disney Dining Plan Returns in 2024

If you've been to the parks dozens of times, the DDP can be fun in a "let's focus on food this trip" kind of way. There's a gamification element that tickled something in my lizard brain. But it's not something I would want to manage for a once-in-a-few-years trip because I'd want to be focused on other things.

It absolutely incentives gluttony, but I always lose weight at WDW because my physical activity is always enough to overcome my caloric intake.

I would never even consider the DDP at these prices.

Same here, but I don't think it incentivizes gluttony. Many people enjoy a sit down meal/restaurant meal every day on vacation regardless of what kind of vacation they're on.

We liked the dining plan when we would do multiple character buffet meals and the kids were all under 10. For our next trip one kid will be 12 (adult) and one will be 3 (no longer free) so I’m sure the math won’t work even if we eat only character meals.

Can anyone explain to me what is included with a “meal” in the quick service dining plan that’s just been announced?

I’m reading it as say a burger and a drink. Does that include a side(fries, max and cheese etc) or a dessert? Thanks

Burgers come with fries in the combo anyway. So it is the entree combo as plated. No additional sides or dessert unless you use the snack credit.

So as an example at Cosmic rays a cheese and bacon burger plus fries entree is $13 and a soda $4.
That is the quick service credit.
Then at the plaza ice cream parlour a sundae is $8, which is a snack.
Hard to spend $57 unless you get alcoholic beverages and they aren’t available at Magic Kingdom quick service.

Smart Disney cast member: “let’s include an add-on option for individual adults on alcohol!”

Disney management with suits: “let’s just include it for all adults whether they drink or are even old enough to drink…more money! …oh and your fired for such a stupid idea that might have left money on the table. That is not the Disney way”

Not quite sure why people are angry about the price rises of 20% or so in adult meals. They’re providing a service that allows you to prepay for your meals. It’s more hassle on a daily basis to try and make the DDP work.

I’ll stick to putting the money aside each month leading up to my trip then paying OOP. We tend to have breakfasts in our room and then kids meals for lunch. Continue to have 2 or so character meals a trip but where we don’t often drink alcohol, we’ll save.

In 2020, the DDP was $78.01, adjusted for inflation that's $91.74 today.

Today's dining plan, took away a snack, added an adult beverage and the price is $94.28. Does that price include tax? I think a lot of people are still shocked on the impact of inflation over the last few year and don't realize what it actually is.

edit: You could always have had an adult beverage with the QS credit.

I thought the last dining plan included alcohol as well

DDP and, I thought the regular plan also, used to include an appetizer for table service.

DDP made most economic sense when you upgraded from "free" dining, even paying rack rate.

Even eating multiple TS and buffets, we always lost weight at Disney due to the amount of walking.

It's an Entree. If you go onto the mobile ap like you are going to place a mobile order, you can see what is included with each entree (it varies depending on what you get and from where, but in general, burgers typically include the fries as well). Deserts and drinks are charged separate (though you get a drink included in the cost as part of the dining plan).

What is the point of the quick service plan?

Two meals at Satu'li Canteen with a non-alcoholic fountain soda beverage comes out to $37.56 per person+ $5.19 for a popcorn cup.
Total of $45.74 (with tax) for the day... Is the refillable resort mug truly worth $11+ if you are at the parks all day? Maybe on your one pool/relaxation day... but other than that, I don't see the value of the plan.

I know people use it as a way to "control" your budget, but that extra $11 can either save you $100-200 or could be spent on merch/additional snacks if you wish to spend it.

And Satu'li is on the higher end of QSR options, so ordering chicken tenders/burgers will result in an even greater loss.
