Just my 2 cents. Weigh out if the dining plan works for you or not. The dining plan meals come with a dessert. That's both for sit down and counter service. I know that for my family we lose money if we do the dining plan because we rarely eat dessert. Also when you do a sit down meal you would have to order something in the top 1/3 most expensive meals to make it worth it. If you do decide to get it, don't use it at a signature dining restaurant as you will have to use 2 of your sit down meal points for it. That is never worth it, even if you all order the most expensive meal and dessert. If you plan on eating every dessert, and every snack and ordering the top 1/3 most expensive meal for lunch and dinner it will save you some money. I know some people just like to have paid for meals in advance and not worry about paying a few extra dollars for peace of mind.
I was originally trying to find the list of restaurants for it and also the pricing for it. We will do the figuring mathematically after that. We've already figured that it would cost $45.64 per person per day. Chances are we won't be able to afford to go to Disney until 2016, so the prices for EVERYTHING will change and we will have to do the math all over again, but right now I'm just trying to get a feel for how much money we need to save. Disney will most likely be a once in a lifetime trip for us, so dining plan or not we will eat out for dinner every evening. Anyways, for now, my husband and I have looked at the menus for restaurants that have sparked some interest and we picked out entrees without looking at the prices. Turns out we have expensive taste when we eat out! LOL--so, for us, we would totally make out better with the dining plan. Our kids are a different story. Since they HAVE to order the kids meals where they are available, we won't make out as well, but I haven't gotten time to figuring their stuff out mathematically yet. We do not have picky eaters and when given the choice, they'd much rather have, say, a piece of broiled Salmon or grilled chicken and vegetables than a cheese burger, mac-n-cheese, or chicken fingers. So, I just need to find time to really look to see if kids meals are offered at the restaurants we would like to visit. I'm completely ok with boxing up leftovers and taking them back to our room if they do that sort of thing.
Also, we are planning on going off property for a day and will probably eat dinner while we are out, so we are thinking of doing 1 Signature restaurant (happens to be in the resort we'd like to stay at) to just use the TS that we wouldn't use that evening.
So, really, the kids are probably going to be the make it or break it thing for us. To be honest, I do like the thought of not having to even think about money or anything when it comes to dining. I realize that I could just save and have that in our banking account and then just use our card to pay as we go on our room account or whatever, but I think I'd just be more relaxed if it was already taken care of. Lots and LOTS of things to think about when planning a Disney vacay!!!
