Disney Dining Options while NOT on the Disney Dining Plan

Probably be awhile before were back - my wife was at a meeting at the Westin. Anyway, a Legion burger off the grill, well, it ain't C-rations.

We have never tried the Dining Plan because we calculated we would have to eat a lot to get the value of what we paid up front. Also have wondered if the number of table service options makes it cost effective if you don't want to spend a lot of time waiting on a table even with ADR.

I did a spreadsheet of our planned meal destinations and looked at the menus online here to get an idea of costs. Since we watch what we eat because of costs and want to maximize time in the parks we determined we would pay more for the dining plan than what it cost us to buy our meals outright. I know this isn't always the case for others, but wondered if anyone else has actually calculated if they truly come out ahead with the dining plan.
