Disney Dining Booking Thought

One of the reasons I love Disney is they are so tech friendly. You can book your hotel, tickets and such online. You can also you your "Key to the World" or credit card anywhere, even the carts.

So here's the question for discussion:

Would you prefer to book all your dinner reservations online yourself or continue to call that number? The people are very friendly and helpful, but I like the control of being able to see all the times that are available for my group size at any given restaurant. Your thoughts???

I'd love to be able to make them online too. I don't mind the dining line - except on the occasion when I get someone who doesn't sound too 'Disney-riffic'! (If you know what I mean!!) I just like to do everything online nowadays.

I would prefer to be able to book the ADRs online. I just like the convenience. I agree that the CMs are really friendly and helpful though. I just don't like talking on the phone.

In a perfect world Disney would call me and ask me when I would like to eat.

But since that won't happen being able to view online the available times to make reservations would be really helpful.

They won't do it online. It is too easy for people to overbook and take up the reservations and not show up. The reservation line, I'm sure, is a buffer so that you have to have more than just a "whim's" commitment to booking an ADR. It would be too easy to just hop online and book an ADR, and when people start seeing venues fill up, they will start booking just so they "may" have a spot. Any member here may feel that they would never "hold" a spot, but agian, how many people would think the same in reality. Now adding reservations is one thing, but how many people, on their trip, will really cancel the 10-15 hold reservations that they have, especially if they no longer have access to the internet since they are on vacation. Will they call reservations to discontinue those??? No. I don't think they would ever allow ADRs online because they lose a large amount of ADR abuse. Besides KK will always be happy to help you out if you book through them (I'm such a tool).

Online would be cool! But as mentioned before it would be abused, Disney would have to work out a system that only allowed you to book according to the number of nights of stay, etc. Maybe, after you commit to a vacation package with the Dining Plan you could get an access code which allowed you into the system to book your dining reservations per your number of Table Service's, etc. Just a thought.

A well designed program will accomplish the same thing that a human could do and often more effectively than a human. You put in your res # and you're only allowed to make one res per meal, just as is the case right now with a human reviewing it.

I have had experiences with people being not too Disney-riffic. One time I called for a 6:30 dinner reservation at Jiko's 2 months in advance and lady told me that there were no reservations available anymore that day. I asked her to please check again because I couldn't believe they would be 100% booked, even at other times that night, so far in advance. Needless to say she said there was nothing and kind of gave an attitude, so I hung up. Sure enough, I called back and got another lady, this one super nice, who said there was plenty of reservations open and that I can have my choice of any time. That was one of only two bad experiences during all the times I have called. The rest have been great and I love how they end the call with "Have a Magical Day"! :)
I do have to agree though that doing it online would be the best, especially if you were given all the available times. It would make it so much easier and I can get it done during my lunch hour or down times at work without everyone hearing when and where I am eating on vacation.

I'd love to be able to do it online. We've been using OpenTable for dining reservations for our trip to New York next month, and it's been great.

OpenTable works great, I've used it to book Emeril's in Universal. You put in your party size and it gives you the open time slots to select from. BTW, where are you eating in NYC? I work in Manhattan, so feel free to PM any questions, I'll be glad to help you out if I can.

Wait. You're asking a bunch of people that are always online... ON A DISNEY FORUM... If they'd like to make reservations online.

Me thinks you might get a slighty biased opinion on this one. :lookaroun
