Disney cutting back on hammocks? The poly beach is a disaster area :(

My guess is yes you can use the GF pool (when GF was going thru DVC refurb, they were able to use the Poly's) but I wouldn't do that in all honesty. I would just head to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. One thing I really am looking forward to is a hot tub at the Poly. My legs will be happy LOL. There really is alot of wasted space at the Poly, I admit. So, we can do is *wait and see* and book for October 2015 too! LOL
Typhoon, hot tub,and Blizzard great!
Just doin' this blog had me looking at availability the first week in Dec. In my dreams!

I just realized @Polydweller that now there will only be one building for Concierge, no more Tahiti.. I figured, by October, it should have settled down some too, just GFH and the Volcano Pool (along with Barefoot Bar) will be under construction. We *did* frequent GFH every trip, but thats not TOO bad, (keeping positive LOL) You said it in two words ... Poly Ambiance, that's what Im afraid will change the most.

Concierge was not in Tahiti. Hawaii and Tonga are concierge (now called club level). The biggest loss about Tahiti is losing Lagoon and Themepark View rooms.

I think the most disruption will start in August when pool work gets into full swing. Right now it is not too bad if you stay away from the east side of the resort.

oops thank you, wrong longhouse! LOL Tonga (dang it I knew that LOL) See, thats what Im saying @tikiman how bad can it be come October? I just dont want to *jump the shark* yet. In all honesty, the only semi-problem I can see, is perhaps a crowded quiet pool, other than that, some construction in GCH. I know it sounds silly, but the Poly IS Disney Vacation to us and thank you, so much, for all the info you provide! Mahalo!!! ;)

I agree about the biggest loss of those buildings. This really reduces the ability for non DVC people to get top rooms. This is something that did not happen at the Contemporary or GF. The decision to reduce these rooms at the Poly is something that is really lowering the ambiance and quality for non- DVC stayers and IMO will only hurt the reputation of the Poly as a place for regular hotel guests to stay. That ultimately hurts the reputation of the entire hotel.

Wonder if DisneyDebNJ might be remembering the year Tahiti was the concierge building. At least the third floor was and they used two rooms on the west side of the building as the concierge lounge.

I’m guessing you just mixed up the names but Polydweller is correct that Tahiti was home to concierge in 2003 when Hawaii rooms were being gutted to fix the moisture problem in the structures. Also when concierge first started you could book any lagoon view room with concierge lounge access.
Are you going this October or 2015? If it is this October from how the plans sounded to me I could see the whole middle of the resort walled off like it was in 2001 when the pool was built. There were walls from outside the GCH all the way onto the sand of the beach. I would not take my family from August to March just because of that. They will have to have access for heavy equipment into that area so that would put an access path between the GCH and Rarotonga. Along with whatever work is going on inside the GCH and the whole eastern side of the resort under construction that would not leave many areas that will be disrupted. Everyone there now talks about how it is not bad and I am glad most are not affected now but it is going to get ugly.

Even in the next few weeks there is going to be more activity around Rarotonga and the GCH.

Exactly, I did mix the names up LOL sorry about that! I am going this October, 20-30th. Requested either Niue or Samoa, quiet pool side. (I just didnt want to chance Hawaii, which is where we normally stay, until I see the view in person, if that makes sense) Maybe Im better off requesting Fiji orTuvulu?!?! Sigh ... I know Im beating a dead horse, but I am such a Poly fan, I figured I would wait til end of summer, to make any changes...

I do, thats what confused me LOL (sorry about that!) I remember 2001, well... Like I said earlier @Polydweller I absolutely agree regarding the ambiance, yet trying to keep an open mind. Ugh.. October of this year looks like I may have to consider a second option. Then I thought... well maybe Ill see what longhouse they put me in, and if I can, upgrade to Concierge. (not realizing alot of others may have the same train of thought) On to better times,LOL

I would suggest Fiji. Samoa and Niue will be right up against the pool construction unless you get on the east pool side.

That sounds like my best bet, I have Samoa and Niue as my choices, facing the pool, but there are no guarantees. Never stayed on the other side of the marina, so this will be a new adventure :)

Thats also a possibility, but TPV at the Poly right now, isnt what I know TPV to be LOL
Oh but it is! Love the TPV in Tuvalu more than TPV in Hawaii. Spot on view of Wishes and you can still hear the music. And you can watch the activity on the boat dock. And since you cannot see the ground beneath your feet as you sit on a 3rd floor balcony, it is like being on a houseboat since all you see is water.

It does take some getting used to, being on the "other" side. But the walk around the marina is worth it!

Yeah? Hmmmm thats a possibility, and... with the current promotions Disney is running, I may change my dates for the following week. That would make the construction one week closer to completion! LOLOL See what I did there?? In all honesty, as long as Im at the Poly, I think I would be happy in any Longhouse... (well, as long as there was no construction going on)

Morning, Deb,
Here are some photos from in and around Fiji, Feb2014, all from Standard View.
Don't think this area would be effected by construction.
I have more, if you need them.

Construction will not impact Tuvalu (or any longhouse on that side.) In your room there, it will be like "old" Poly. If you can get a TPV discount I think you will be pleased with your experience and it might soften the "yuck" factor of everything else going on at that time.

See, you get it @Tuvalu thats just it... I just dont want anything to sour my feelings about the Poly, WAYYYYY too many years invested in great times and memories, BUT.. I will be there for the change, and see it through. Does that make sense? LOL Two words I repeat during our vacation.... *remember when?!!*, I know, I know, I'm a dork LOL
