Disney cruises

I found texing to be a more economical way of staying in touch on the cruises. While the internet rates are by the minute, cell phone data charges are by the MB.

I set my phone up to do only text messages - no updates, no pictures, nothing like that. I would turn it on twice a day - in the morning and in the evening. I would get my texts, shoot back an answer, and turn the phone off. I also made one or two calls - very fast ones. I think it cost me a total of $30 - $40 for the entire 5 day cruise.

Of course I don't loads of "garbage" texts. If you are someone who subscribes to a bunch of text services, this could be a problem. I turn off my daily NFL update text :) and I figured the 2 or 3 texts I get a week from the local emergency services was not going to hurt anything so I left them on.

Just be aware that the shipboard cell service gets turned off 3 miles from port and remains off the whole time the ship is in port. However you may be able to pick up a roaming signal in some ports.
