Disney Cruise with a one year old...to book or not to book?

Morning everyone. I have a question about taking a 1 and a half year old on a Disney Cruise. Has anyone done it? My little guy is a great traveller and has already been at WDW but I would like to suprise my wife with a cruise this year. We would be going in December 2010 on a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. I know Disney and I have a feeling that this would be great and judging by most review it has been for a lot of others. Just want to make sure that I am not out of my mind. I guess as a side note does Disney offer babysitting if my wife and I wanted to have a "adult" dinner for one of the nights?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would wait till he's older to go on DCL. You will be paying full price for the 3rd person in the cabin for him, but he's too young for the children's program. If you want him to go to the nursery, you must pay extra for it. If he is not potty trained then he can't go in the pool, even with a swim diaper on. You (and him) will get much more out of it if you wait until he's 4 or older.

*Disclaimer - I have not been on a Disney Cruise*

But I did find the following about swimming on their website:
Question
Is it true that children must be toilet trained in order to enter the pools?
Answer
Yes. The United States Public Health Service requires that only children who are toilet trained be permitted to enter swimming pools and spas onboard cruise ships. Young children who are not toilet trained are welcome to enjoy the fountain play area near the Mickey Pool. It's designed exclusively for the enjoyment of children wearing swim diapers.

I just couldn't believe that the most family friendly cruise line would leave toddlers "out of the water" so to speak! :) Because even if you wait until this baby is 4, by then you might have another baby who isn't potty trained.

When it comes to traveling with kids, if it's something you & your spouse will enjoy (trip to Disney, Disney cruise) I always say Go! I bet you'll have a fantastic time!

DCL is EXCELLENT for families of all ages. They have a terrific nursery for infants 12 weeks to 36 months....AND if that isn't enough...they have in room babysitting.

It's the perfect getaway for parents that don't get to have nights out very often.

If you need more info you can PM me. I am new here, but have tons of Disney and DCL knowledge and experience.

I would take him and you will have a wonderful time! Yes that is true about the pool but many of the kids that age want to socialize with other children that age since they are so curious about everything and everyone. If you want some adult only time then by all means use the Nursery! Disney has the best kids programs of all the cruise lines.

And DisneyJoe is correct (Hi Joe!) you will only have to pay the taxes and fees since he is the third person and under the age of 3.

Go...have a GREAT time!!

And if you have any questions please feel free to contact me or any of my agents. We would be more than happy to help you make your upcoming Disney Cruise Magical!!!!!!!
