Disney Credit Card

I wasn't sure where to post this but I just wanted to share with you all. I know there are a lot of people who do not like to use credit cards but I just wanted to tell you how great the disney credit card is (as long as you pay the balance off monthly). My husband and I both have the disney credit card and we use it for just about everything so we can build up the rewards dollars. Then when it is time to book a trip sometimes the amount we have in rewards would pay the difference of staying at a moderate rather than a value resort. Or we use it to pay for food, or souveniers that maybe we wouldn't have bought if we didn't have the reward dollars. Or...for some of you who like to start a disney fund, the reward dollars you accumulate from using the disney credit is a good start.

I just wanted to post this because my husband and I are trying to save up as much money as we can to build a new house but we still want to do vacations and I personally think the disney credit card helps us. Call me crazy or just call me a really big Disney fan.

Same here.. the Disney credit card incentive is great, I pay everything with the card and have built up a 200 point bank. Hopefully over the next two years it will get me into a deluxe resort instead of a value.

Same here! Between the Visa points and our piggy bank we usually don't have to take any money out to go. We've also started doing the "Gift Card Christmas." Instead of getting gifts that we don't need we've started getting gift cards to Disney. We started a couple of years ago by giving Disney gift cards to my family who go in January. It's easy and the perfect gift. We've spread it to birthday's too.

I bought my flatware with my rewards this past week and some lovely earrings and a jacket! I have figured out ways to use my card for just about everything except my car insurance.

I am one of the people on here who disagree with the wonders of the Disney Visa. I have been able to find cards that offer me better rewards than 1% back on what I purchase. There are a lot of airline cards that do better than that, and cash back cards that are better as well. For me, the few discounts make it worthwhile for me to have. But, it definitely isn't my primary credit card.

My husband is like you on this one. He would rather find a different credit card with a higher percentage of cash back but I like the Disney one because you HAVE to use it in disney. I know that if it were not for the rewards card then I would not buy a lot of the stuff I have, for example we bought the mickey mouse silverware set and cookbooks and other kitchen stuff. I never would have even thought of spending the money if it werent for the card.

It's true there are cards out there with better deals, Disney is only 1%. But like you said it is only for Disney and that can help. My wife and I both use the card for everything and pay it all off every month. And after almost 5 years of collecting points a 7 night stay at the Poly ( with the buy 4 get 7 deal ) with park view room and meal plan is only costing me $650 out of pocket. I would never pay cash money to stay at any premium hotel. It's way too costly and I can't afford it anyway. So at least this way I get to play rich type person for this trip to the World! And then we'll start saving them up again.

love, love, love my Disney Visa card. We have a business and all the purchases that go with it so you can imagine that we rack up the points. We would have more if DH didn't make me share the "wealth" of possible points with the Cabelas card!:ROFLOL: Like any credit card if you don't pay it off at the end of the month you can get yourself into trouble very quickly. I save all the receipts from the everyday purchases and I know what has to be paid at the end of the month. It's really about the disciple to know you have to pay it and not think that the money in your checking account, that is not tapped into to pay for gas, etc, as "extra". For me it's really no different than using the debit card for the checking account; the money in the checking balance is to cover the card that was swiped at the gas pump.
I also love the reaction we get from the clerks when they see my Tinker Bell or DH card with Mickey and friends. It's amazing how those points help with dining costs and our rewards card was never turned away anywhere on property.

But you might have been able to find a card that would have given you enough cash back in that time period to have the entire stay payed off and possibly have some extra. Don't want to be a debbie downer in the thread, but I'm a finance person so I thoroughly analyze this stuff.

Completely agree that it's worth having! I saved $162 in points for my trip this week! Plus we got a discount on the Segway Tour, will get a free photo pass picture in Epcot, and will get discounts on souvenirs at the WOD store in DTD. I love having the Visa!! :)

At the start of the year I got an offer to earn 5x the rewards points on qualifying purchases (it has to be on Groceries, Gas, Dining, and/or Airfare). So instead of the measly 1%, I earned 5% on those kinds of purchases during January, February, and March. This was GREAT and believe me, the reward dollars REALLY added up quickly at a rate of 5X.

I was a little sad to see the offer expire at the end of March. However near the end of that month, I got offered an extension of the 5X promotion that would keep it going for April, May, June, July, & August! SO, so far January-August of this year I've been earning 5% back in Disney Rewards Dollars...it's REALLY great!

Keep an eye out for these kinds of offers for yourselves...

I agree. I use my Disney card when it pays, and other times I use my Continental airlines card.

The thing with the Disney card is it's free. Many others charge a fee. My Contentinental one is $80 a year. But then I don't fly enough to get Elite status anymore, so I have to pay for my first bag. When my kids and I go to WDW, thats 3 bags, at $15 each way, so the card pays for itself.

Sometimes the Disney card does come out well - like 3X rewards at ShopRite, where I also get airline miles when buying groceries no matter how I pay (time to stock up on sale items :) )

Other times you are right, and there are better cards.

However, using the Disney card is still better than nothing.

Oh, and I paid for my DVC with the Disney card, and then paid it off. That worked out nicely :)
