Please Note: This does not apply to the Disney Visa Card by Chase (formally Bank One)

Received the following letter in the mail:

Dear Disney Credit Cardholder:

The Disney Credit Card program will be permanently discontinued as of October 1, 2005. Beginning on October 1, your Disney Credit Card issues by GE Money Bank will no longer be an accepted form of payment for transactions. In addition, on-line account access will no longer be available.

If your account has a balance, you will continue to receive statements from GE Money Bank. You are responsible for making payments until the balance remaining on your Disney Credit Card account is paid in full in accordance with your Credit Card Agreement. For account balance information and customer service inquiries, please call 800-222-1262.

Any purchases made with a Disney Credit Card can be returned in accordance with the return policy in effect at the purchase location.

Please direct any questions regarding the discontinuation of the Disney Credit Card program to Disney at P.O. Box 4489, Anaheim, CA 92803.

Thank You for you participation in the Disney Credit Card program.

Sincerely,

GE Money Bank - Disney Credit Card Group

Editorial: It appears Disney is too blame for the program ending. Similar to the Disney Magazine being cancelled! Luckily I have a Disney Visa Card too.

Well I must say that gave me a scare as I just received my Disney Visa card today. Never heard of the other one though.

The "original" Disney Credit Card was accepted at Disney Theme Parks, Disney Catalog and The Disney Store. Here is a picture of one of the cards:

(This credit card in the picture above was the card for cast members. The card for guests didn't say team.)

Disney Credit Card came out with a special card four years ago with the Disney World 100 Years Celebration on the front. Maybe this will be a collectors item...

Aww, nuts. I have one of these, and the coolest thing about it is that it is kinda like a "vacation card" because I can't use it anywhere else. It is like Disney dollars, and I don't have to worry about it. I had a feeling this was coming.

great, another thing I like about disney is gone...I have had this card for years and loved it and of course my vacation is mid october so now I have to find another card to use for my hotel...odd thing is, is that I have not received anything from them yet.

Another nail in my vacation coffin!

We love this card!
We use it to purchase our season passes every year. By the time we have totally paid them off, its time to renew, so it really kept our crazy spending in check. Between this and the price of gas, and parking creeping up, soon all we will be able to afford is a trip around MK in the monorail. And I miss Disney magazine too.

Change may be inevitable, but it does't mean I have to enjoy it!

I completely agree. I used it the same way. Kind of a way of keeping my Disney spending in one place -- to keep a lid on it!

I just used it for my last trip.

Darn.

thanks for the info, I will pass it along to my parents, who have had that card for years. I think they will be sad, but they also have the disney chase card, so I am sure they will use that one on vacation.

I can tell you that people who have the card are not happy about it. I can't tell you how many people said something to me this weekend at the Disney Store when I was ringing up their purchases. It should be interesting when we have to say, "I'm sorry, we no longer accept that card"!

BTW, in no way shape or form was my Disney Store notified of the change. I was just lucky that I read about it on here! I don't know if some of the stores were notified not but we never found out about it!

This absolutely bites! I just paid off my last trip from Feb. to be able to use it for my next trip and the letter came right after I mailed my final payment. I love that card. Since I can only use it for Disney, it was my "vacation" card like someone else said. I do not want a Disney Visa because I will be too tempted to use it locally. Why do they keep taking Disney things away from us? If it was the bank making the call, they should find another bank to take over the accounts as long as it is in good standing.

It's probably not the bank making the call. I am sure that it is Disney.

Our old Disney cards were run by a division of G E Capital, one of the world's largest consumer and business lenders, but also part of G E, which owns NBC/Universal...

I was happy to see this card continued for so long, but I am not surprised to see it closed. Obviously the relationship started long before G E bought Universal (even though they had always owned NBC)....

Besides, Disney probably wants everyone to get the new Visa (not what I wanted to do, for the same reasons as everyone -- a vacation card only -- but that is probably what they want).

I remember going through this with Spiegel. There bank closed my credit card once I paid it off, then they transferred the account to a new bank that only accepted people with good accounts. I do see your point about GE being in conflict with a Disney product. I suppose from now on I will save cash for my trips until I break down for the Disney Visa. Right now, I am staying away from another Visa...even if it is Disney. Way too tempting.

Personally I don't see the huge loss here since Disney has another credit card that actually gets you something in return. The Disney Credit Card looked nice and all, but it didn't get you any rewards (which is the best part of a credit card IMO)
