Disney Credit Card-not Visa

Different banks. The Disney Credit card stopped the applications 2 months before the Disney Visa card came out. Disney's contract ended with one bank and decided that an affinity with Bank 1 would be better for them. Bank 1 pays the advertising for the cards and Disney kicks in some little rewards.

If the Disney card has an expiration date, don't be surprised if the card won't re-new.

I'm almost positive that THE DISNEY CARD was tied into AMEX somehow. I just got an email on it, although it might be in the trash pile or already gone.

Lots of questions from CM's at the Front Desk because there isn't a box for TDC on the reg cards, and most people have never seen one.

The "real" Disney Card

The Disney Card that pre-dates the Disney/Visa card is issued by Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia. While it does have a "Member since" date on it there is no expiration date. You might have to provide a photo ID when you use it but that was only the first time you use it to make sure it was mailed to the correct person.

When the switch was made to Disney/Visa I complained long and hard about the website not having a pull down menu which listed the Disney Card as had been the practice. Disney/Visa yes, Disney Card not listed. Therefore I'm unable to get the online discount on admission media purchase. What follows was their official reply:

"Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort.

Disney will continue to accept The Disney Credit Card as a form of
payment. Applications for new cardholders are no longer being accepted as of
March 31, 2003. The Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia administers the Disney Credit Card.

For information about this card please call 1-800- 201-5330 or write
to:

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
us.

Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number
if applicable on all correspondence.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Vicky James

WALT DISNEY WORLD

As you can see Ms. James really didn't address my problem of not being able to use the Disney Card online to get the ticket purchase discount. Even today you can use Visa, Master Card, AmEx, Dinner's and JCB but still not Disney Card.

However, I did make reservations for this September using it last Friday night and didn't have any problems with CRO. Just the one thing they always forget and then check themselves on, ". . . and what is the expiration date? - Wait! It doesn't have an expiration date!"

If you are looking for the website for it check www.disneycardview.com .

FYI for Disney Credit Card holders, the 2004 Birnbaum no longer lists that card as a method of payment. It now says the Disney Visa in the place of the Disney Credit Card for the method of payments accepted at WDW. Although I know they still accept it, they are not advertising the acceptance. This changed from the 2003 edition which I think also confirms the ultimate phase out of the card.

I just got back from Fl yesterday and I had no problems at all with my disney credit card. I didn't use it a whole lot because I paid mostly with my debit card and cash to limit the amount of charges but I did use it some and there were no problems. When I worked in merchandise at WDW the credit card button choices were credit card and hotel charge so as long as the card exists they should still be able to accept it, I think. But anyways my point is that I didn't have any problems with mine.

Thanks, Tigger, for letting me know. Did you see my post earlier that it is not listed anymore as a payment method in Birnbaums? It specifically singled out Disney Visa, but did not mention the Disney credit card. I really think they just won't advertise it and hope us cardholders will eventually switch. Hope you had a great time! :)

Yeah I saw it and I hope your theory is right about just not advertising it. I would be really sad to lose my disney card. The trip was fun, but it had it's moments that weren't so much (like when I dropped and broke my digital camera on day 2). Overall I had an excellent trip and I can't wait until my next one.

Sorry to hear about your camera!
If it was new and you bought it with a credit card you might be able to contact your CC comapny to see if they have automatic purchase protection.

I only remeber taking the Disney Card twice while working on the front desk. One of those times I have a verification problem and had to call it in to the Authorization Center. The man who barely spoke english kept asking me for my store number. It took five minutes to get him to undedstand that I wasn't at a Disney Store. That alone shows you how often these are used at the Disney Hotels and the parks in general. I'm pretty sure they don't mention them in training anymore which is probably why alot of CM's don't seem to recognize them. It would help if Disney didn't have such a high turnover.

I was sorry to see AMEX go as "official" credit card of WDW. I liked the little comps like the packs and the little booklets about WDW they gave you at check-in; if you asked. The booklets were pure ads for AMEX and how you could spend a small fortune at WDW using your AMEX card. They did have some good discounts though.

I asked about any comps with Disney Visa last September and the CM rolled her eyes.

The Monogram Disney card was OK. I bought the WDW 25th anniversary package and got the hologram card. It is neat. It will probably be worth something in a 100 years or so.

You and me both! I ranted about this in an old thread when the Disney Visa was starting up, and AMEX was being phased out as the "official" credit card for the Walt Disney Company.

Ah, yes! The American Express "White Glove" package!

My joyous first on-property stay to WDW in 1996 (had stayed off-property in 1983 and 1993 but won't do that again;)) was using the American Express "White Glove" package. You got a pack and the little booklet (which had every restaurant, every shop, and every activity WDW had to offer).

Later "White Glove" packages included an audio cassette of music from the parks and/or Disney "hits". I liked the "White Glove" package so well I used it for four years, always staying in one of the originals - Polynesian, Contemporary, or Grand Floridian. Fantastic discounts.

I lament that AMEX is no longer the "official" card of WDW. The programs associated with American Express had a lot of class.

I don't buy into the "Use-our-card-and-get-free-money-and-stuff" promotions the multitudinous Visa cards offer. And oh, the spam, the spam - through the mail, through emails, through phone calls...

I will never give up my AMEX card for the Disney Visa card - sorry. This merely reinforces the notion that Disney seems to have about most everything nowadays - make more money, but do it on the cheap. Visa is cheaper for retailers to accept than AMEX.

Not to mention: American Express pulled their sponsorship of American Adventures. Has this attraction improved by this action?

Edited to add link:

Here is a thread about the demise of the sponsorship of American Express and the "White Glove" treatment (and mention of the demise of the Disney Credit Card is made, as well):

"American Express is no more"

Well, I think the issues are now solved on whether or not they will take this card since it officially bites the dust in October. I believe there is a thread going here in the Disney Co. News section. Just another Disney thing being taken away from recurring visitors. I still feel the Disney Credit card should be automatically replaced with the Visa if you are in good standing with the account rather than take away my "vacation" card with no replacement.

I agree with you completely there. I'm also very disappointed that my Disney Credit card is being canceled with no replacement.

well the Disney Visa card is being issued by a different bank than the old Disney Card. So the account info wouldn't roll over.

I had a Disney Credit card from the time they first introduced it until last year when I had a balance of 58 dollars or so and the minimum payment was 55. I was going to pay the entire balance so it wasn't that big of a deal - but I called just to see why the minimum remained so high. I got a very rude employee that told me I should have read the terms because they maintain the highest minimum payment of any balance throughout the life of the balance. At which point I cancelled the card and politely told Monogram Bank where they could put it and their terms.

Disney VISA rules - but you don't earn points on balance transfers. Of course there were ZERO perks with the old Disney card.

Wow... this has not been my experience at all. I don't get any spam, e-mails or calls (it's all "opt-in", and I "opted-out").

Why wouldn't you want cash back? It really is free money. Granted, Disney VISA only offers $1 on every $100 spent. Other cards have higher rewards, but other cards often have limitations and conditions on the rewards, which can make it difficult to actually use them. Disney VISA makes it easy - we use every penny of "cash back" we get.

We put nearly ALL our monthly expenses on the Disney VISA and pay our balance off every month (so we pay no interest). As a result, the last time we went to WDW we had several hundred dollars of "free money" to spend in the parks, which we did without any problem or inconvenience. How cool is that?

Given the choice between a few "White Glove" pamphlets and several hundred bucks to spend... I don't see why anyone would prefer the old card.

The "old" Disney Credit Card was bad. The "new" Disney Visa is bad too IMO (although I have one, but have never used it). Master Card is bigger and better and gives more cash back!

Good call Woody! Other than having 'magic' in your wallet, why get a card where you only get 1% Disney Credit back when I could get 5% CASH back for purchases at grocery stores, gas stations and drug stores, and 1% CASH every where else with my current card. It just doesn't make sense for me to get the DVC right now. If I decide to go on a tour on a future trip, I would probably apply for one to get the discount on the tour.

Just a note, the Disney Credit Cards that are going bye bye start with the first 4 digits of 6007.
