Disney Converts

I don't recall a thread like this, so I thought it would be all right to post. I was going to write this in the 'stuff newbies say' thread when I realized a whole post on Disney converters would be a fun topic.

This story takes place few years ago, when my aunt was a Disney Newbie...

My cousin and I were planing our annual trip and during a discussion at a family party my aunt got excited and decided she was going to join us. She had not been do Disney World since 1979, Epcot was not even built so she was still in the mind set of Disney being the Magic Kingdom and the 3 main resorts. The idea of going again and actually staying at the Polynesian was really tempting to her. (she doesn't fly or sail and it was her dream to go to Hawaii so the only way she was ever going to get anywhere like that was to drive to Disney, lol)

Before the trip she decided that this was the ONLY trip she was going on. It's too expensive, it was a kid's park, and it's Disney: what's the point in going every year? We tried to tell her Disney was more than that but she is a very stubborn woman and doesn't always listen to us. Anyway, the trip was fun and my aunt had a great time. She really enjoyed the Polynesian Resort, loved the shopping, and all the atmosphere Disney had to offer.

Skip to the present, 3 years later (and 3 trips later), she is now planning our trip to the World for March and has her own favorite habits and restaurants and all that. It's so bad that she has a picture of a Dole Whip machine as her computer desktop background.

 Conversion successful

I had wanted to go as a kid, but mom said she didn't like amusement parks and I could go when I grew up...so I did. And I took my son.

One night I called and he talked to her. He told about the MK fireworks, which she kept quoting later..."It was all these bright colors...like at Christmas, you know...but better." he told her how nice everyone was, talked about the monorail, parades and the hotel pool. He talked about Mickey being on everything you got, which he and i had discussed. And he told her that I wouldn't let him order room service. She then had to ask him if he'd gone on any rides.

I told her that everything actually looked better in person than in the ads and how I didn't think I'd had that experience before. I talked about colors, landscaping and topiaries. She asked about the hotel and the lines, which I said we'd been successfully avoiding, thanks to the UG.

She told me later that she had decided to go while DS was talking about the fireworks and that my comment about it looking better in person had made it official. The next day she told me she wanted info from different hotels and asked me to pick some up.

...and we weren't even trying. :)
