DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Would they even be able to announce that so soon? I thought Universal's Simpsons theme park rights still had 3 or so years left, and I feel like there would be weirdness there if the rightsholder-to-be tanked interest in the existing land by prematurely announcing the replacement.

Also, please don't be Simpsons. 🙏
If it doesn’t open for another 3 years I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be violating the contract.

Universal already used their biggest weapon, but Pokemon may be the next best thing. I'm not 100% sure on that because I don't know if Pokemon will translate well into a theme park land/attractions, or if it's something that will actually be a major draw to the more casual Pokemon fans, but it should be successful no matter what.

The Simpsons would be a laughably terrible and short-sighted move by Disney.
Someone on IU purported that he's heard Al Jeans secret project at 20th Century is a Simpsons movie 2. So maybe that's why Disney is also bullish on bringing Simpsons to DHS.

Considered it. Moving on from it.

Disney has never substantially incorporated tv shows in their parks. I have no reason to believe Percy Jackson will be the exception.

Simpsons at least has a 35 year legacy under its belt, and has a proven track record of theme park success.
Ah but with Disney using Disney+ data to help determine what they put in their parks and Percy Jackson just so happening to be their most watched original from last year and it having recently received a very early green light for a third season, it’s not at all as impossible as you might think.

I’m not predicting Percy right now or anything, but I wouldn’t be so quick to brush it off.

I think it could see some form of representation in the future, but a full land is a big commitment. I’d expect more merch and maybe an entertainment offering of some kind first.

Anyway, I’m cautiously optimistic for this one. I’ve been a champion of this IP in this attraction for YEARS. I hope they really go all-in, but even a bare-bones retheme here could be a welcome change of pace. Regardless, I hope this isn’t the only attraction the Muppets have in the pipeline.
