Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I've come across many people, on twitter and the like, talking about how Norway is completely going away to make room for an Arandelle pavilion. I was always under the impression, even from the press release, that Norway is basically staying the same apart from the attraction and a M&G. In the emails they are sending people it even says that all the "architecture, exhibits, and food" will remain. It STILL will be Norway, correct?
It'll still be called the Norway Pavilion, there just won't be very much left about Norway.

This entire silly debate over the Norwegianess (yep that's a word I think!) of Frozen is just silly. The culture that inspired the movie is clearly Scandinavian, at that culture was and is prevalent in countries like Denmark and Norway, borders are not the way to measure culture. Culture does not stop at border crossing :)
The main plot, the story of two sisters, has nothing to do with Scandinavia.

I love the Showcase so much. The more I read this thread the more I wish I were there right now. I don't think I have ever seen the Anime museum and may have to check it out in April. I just saw the French movie this past April trip. There is a lot to do but you're right; there could me more. I wish Norway had an entertainment (music, dance) offering. I may make it a point to to make some notes of things I haven't done in a while/never did in the World Showcase and do it. (Minus Norway since I won't have my Maelstrom to ride.) :arghh:

They use to.

It very well may be more popular after the Frozen craze (even without a Frozen presence) as it currently stands. I would guess it is indeed more popular now, but it will not be as popular without a Frozen presence as it will be with one. My bold prediction is that Norway will be more popular a pavilion after the Frozen ride opens than it is currently, by a wide margin. I think that is a good thing for the pavilion, others disagree. No big surprise there. :)
You take that for granted because Frozen is a known quantity. There is no reason that a new, cartoon-less, appropriately themed Norway attraction couldn't be very popular on its own. Frankly, it's disheartening that Disney's leadership and a considerable portion of its fan base have such low confidence in the idea of attractions that aren't based on movies.

Any entertainment company making decisions based on the current whims of the consuming population is already behind the times and is not built to last. Disney and Epcot are not meant to be reactive. They used to be better than that. They created new things that you never even knew to ask for. When you start just giving people what they ask for, and not what they don’t know to ask for, then your product becomes temporary and fragile.

Well put. Something lost on so many here...

For me it's not that I have low confidence in a attraction not based on a movie HM, Dinosaur, Spaceship Earth and ToT are my favorite rides in each park overall and none are based on movies. Well maybe ToT could be aligned with one but to me it is really not. But I think if done correctly Frozen could be a great attraction. Time will tell, but I have faith :)

Dinosaur is based on the movie Dinosaur, albeit very loosely.

If Disney wanted to do right by Frozen (and I desperately wish they would), they wouldn't unceremoniously stuff it where it doesn't belong.

Clearly a number of folks on here think the same way. :)

I am not sure what exactly a Frozen ride should be, I would guess in the perfect world a ride thru a mountain something like Splash Mountain would be pretty awesome.

But it does not seem like we are getting that so I am going Frozen in Norway in style baby!

Wearing this opening day...

Only imagine this on a guy who has about 4 margaritas in him, guess I better pee before I get in line :)

To be fair, I think all of us can agree that there is nothing wrong with cupcakes, even Frozen ones. I may even be tempted away from the delicious German caramel corn for a tasty cupcake (the maple bacon cupcake from Flower and Garden was really good).

I really wish they would make the ride a guided tour through Norway featuring the characters from frozen. I'd honestly prefer that over Sparknotes: Frozen ala TLM

$75 million spread across the ride, store, M&G and possibly the bakery and restaurant. I really don't see how anyone can be optimistic about the ride anymore.
I'm not in construction or architecture, but if the basic infrastructure is already in place, wouldn't that decrease the amount needed to spend on a refurb?

If TLM cost approx $150 million, I would assume that a large chuck of that money went into building the infrastructure itself.

I'm not going to claim we are getting the quality of the Haunted Mansion or IaSW with this refurb, but I also think that we shouldn't dismiss the fact that all of that money is being used to change the inside of buildings that are already built.

That being said this is TDO we are talking about. Any form of optimism is usually met with a smack of reality.

I assume you're referring to my comment.
The addition of minimal Frozen theming to go with the new selection of Frozen cupcakes.
I was just joking ;) But I wouldn't be surprised if the Norwegian stuff WAS replaced with Frozen cupcakes.
