Disney China?

For those that want a better understanding of what Disney is doing in China check out this article from Reuters New Service:

China will be a multi-billion dollor market if Disney can get its foot into the mainland with the construction of Shanghai Disneyland.

More money made in China allows for more money to be spent on other Disney projects such as the US parks.

If past result is any indication, I'd say a successful park will just mean cuts to suck MORE money out of the park to put into other things. Afterall, that's what happens with WDW

I think it might be making a fairly large assumption to think this.

I believe you are correct. Separate operating groups, separate budgets and profits for each. Whatever profits realized from the Shanghai park will help the overall Disney bottom line, but that doesn't necessarily translate into more funds for other parks....

I see it as an opportunity for the Shanghai DL to spend money developing, engineering, planning, and designing high-quality rides that could show up at a US park in a "cookie-cutter" version. We (WDW) get high-quality, NEW rides at a more feasible rate.

Ex:
Toy Story Mania was designed for DCA, but DHS got it for a lower development cost with just a few modifications to make it fit. That's why the Cream/Blue/Red color scheme and the term "Midway" doesn't fit in at DHS but works perfectly with the show building, costumes, ride vehicle colors, and location (Paradise Pier) at DCA.

It's also why we have Soarin! (over California but not really stated) at Epcot, but it still flies over Disneyland at the end

I feel the same about additional rides and money invested in Disney to develope new rides for any park is a benifit to all of the Disney Parks. Any time you have the operturnity to make a new park, you are going to develope new rides and plans. I know that I plan on going to Shanghai shortly after it opens, but I think that most new rides if redone at WDW would be new to most people going there. If Disney can get most of this paid for by China, I can not see a bad side to this.

We just returned from a 4-day visit to The World and everything looked great. The parks were clean and tidy; the restrooms were well maintained; the ride queues were 99% litter-free (always some idiot placing a piece of garbage somewhere); everything seemed to be in working order - although we did decide to bypass EE this time. If there has been a reduction in funds going towards maintanence, it certainly didn't show. Our room was recently renovated with seemingly new everything.

As for investing $ in China's new park, anyone who has a business would LOVE to tap into such a surging market with a population that has more and more folks with a good amount of disposable income. China, along with Russia, has the greatest number of new millionares in the world.
