Disney Channel - Ruining the Magic

For the "tweens"(hate the word).especially the girls, they love seeing the "stars" of the shows out of character. My daughter and her friends love to watch the behind the scenes and the interviews. My 10 yr old son will even watch if they show a hobby or how a particular stunt is done.I would rather they watch the disney channel and all their repeats, than "mini marathons" nightly of Family Guy on TBS.Thats for me to watch,my guilty pleasure, the griffin family.

I'm having a sleepy moment, but what shows did they use to show back then?:o

I remember some of the shows.

There was Brotherly Love, with the Lawrence brothers, reruns of Growing Pains, the New Mickey Mouse Club, and this show called Flash Foward, which was kind of that whole "'tween" show before it really got going on the Disney Channel with Lizzie McGwire.

The one thing I do miss from the Disney Channel is that it used to never show commercials during the movies. Then they only did it during the premieres. Now they are everywhere.

If you are talking about Jamie Lynn Spears, Zoey 101 is on Nickelodeon, not Disney Channel

Oopps, my mistake!! Up here in Canada we don't get the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon. What we have is the Family Channel and they show all the Disney shows plus other shows too. I know they are always showing Zoey 101 and Hannah Montana and Raven and all those type shows back-to-back all the time. I just assumed Zoey was a Disney show. Sorry! :o

I wasn't around in the 80s. What shows did they have then?

All the ones mentioned above, plus shows about the parks (WDW Inside/Out was at least one) and LOTS of classic Disney films and Wonderful World of Disney reruns. They also showed the original Mickey Mouse Clubs in the mornings and some other times.

They used to fill the time between shows with classic cartoon shorts and "D-TV," which was animated "videos" of Disney characters (usually taken from the classic cartoons) set to eighties pop songs of the day -- a Disney take on MTV. These can sometimes be found on You-Tube.

For a while in the '90s at night they had concert series, some live or live-on-tape from Pleasure Island.

I miss the reruns of live-action Disney films and the original MMC, which should be shown at night, maybe even late at night or on weekend afternoons. The original MMC, while black and white, was still entertaining kids at least through the early '80s in reruns -- especially because it was so well-done and treated children with respect. It didn't talk down to them or put on a fake energy-drink personna.
