How come Character/Parade Performer is not included in part of Disney World's Program? But is at Disneyland's? Any Word, or is it coming soon? Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing for the Program. We can't have too much of an option or everyone else would go for the better ones like that.:brick: We are just getting out of high school, so maybe they want people with more experience? I wish I could tell you the correct answer. I will look into it and ask some of the other Career Start Programers.

Disneyland entertainment and Disneyworld entertainment are two entirely different beasts.

Walt Disney's entertainment would easily eat Disneylands as a quick snack.

and i also think it has a lot to do with you just getting out of highschool. They want more mature and profetionaly minded individuals for that area of work.

I asked one of the guys who is head of one of the groups I am in on myspace and he responded...

"If you go to the site wdw, and its not there its mainly because we give those roles to the College Program and full time cast members. I haven't check the site out lately but they may have changed it and let cs do it. Its also most likely for legal reasons too... the laws are different in FL then CA "

I could see how that would work.

I think it's also something with the "learning components" since performers work much more hours under a lot more conditions (NOT SAYING THAT EVERYONE ELSE DOESNT HAVE A LOT OF HOURS OR WORK HARD believe me, I know I did good sums of 12-14 hour stock shifts) but I think theres more pressure on characters: heat, training, dances, and I just think Disney doesn't think careerstart is ready. Idk the true answer. Just a thought. Careerstart is a lot of fun still though!

I know that when career start first started the only options were custodial and quick serve so maybe that has something do with it, it seems like they limit the options career start students have.

And whoever said that Disney World's entertainment department could eat Disney Land's is terribly mistaken, there's no comparison at all, Disney Land has a much more impressive stock of characters, especially face.

you may be right about the face.

but remember they have to staff each park with characters all day. plus all the dining options, plus parades, plus shows.

I was actually referring to quality and not quanity. WDW may have a bigger department, but DL really has higher standards.

One thing about the limited options for career starters (CSs?)

What would college students looking into Disney's "college program" think if the same jobs being offered to them were being offered to students straight out of high school? Not to demeane high school graduates, of course. Obviously you only need one semester of college in to participate in the program, which isn't far off from those graduating from high school. But to promote a program that supposedly gives college students a unique, professional opportunity exclusive to them and then hire in teenagers straight out of high school who haven't even been to college degrades the unique experience of the College Program.

I kind of question career start, myself. Like I said, I know that there are plenty of high school graduates who would probably be perfect for a program like this. But Disney already has enough problems with tons of actual college students who have already lived on their own previous to coming down on the CP program not being responsible enough to last the entire season without getting terminated. Think how bad that could get once teenagers who haven't been to college yet, or even lived on their own come down right out of high school. One semester of college can be just enough to ensure that students have learned at least some responsibility.

I also feel like career start is another attempt by Disney to try to get as much cheap labor as they can out of kids who maybe really don't give a damn and are just going down to Florida to party.

Once again, I hope I am not offending any high schoolers by saying these things. I know there are many good ones out there. But it is an issue to be concerned with. I loved my program experience, but I am concerned with how they will treat these guys that come right out of high school to come down to work for them.

I do agree, which I have applied for the Career Start myself. This is taking a big step for people just out of high school to go into a major company like this and not knowing what to really expect for the Career Start. By the way, I'm not offending by this at all, I actually agree. CS people have to really want this so bad to make it work out for them.
Some say this may be avoiding of working in their hometown or getting pushed out by their parents to start living on their own if they won't go to college. Others may want to do this just to learn how to get out on their own and find a different way to go at it without their parents help.

I hope I'm not offending anyone else about this. I love disney so much and I can't wait to be working with them soon. :brick:
