Disney Bashers: Here they come!

I see it more as a compliment than anything that people have to MAKE STUFF UP to mock out Disney, whereas you can go to Universal and see the falling apart animatronics with your own eyes. However, since Disney is seen as the best THEME park company in the world, setting the standard for other "theme" parks to aim for, people love to get nit-picky if anything is not 100% perfect at Disney--and, of course, made up or not, this "juicy" rumor catches people's attention, so it makes headlines. It's kinda like when Shrek or the Simpsons mock out Disney parks--I see it more as a joke than anything else--when people have to stoop to muckraking to mock out a company, you know they REALLY think pretty highly of it. You never see threads about paint peeling at Six Flags...cuz there are so many other problems to point out, but at Disney where errors are few and far between, the media takes what it can get.

Ooh a Disney topic concerning Disney bashers...

I'll get this aggravation out of me here then instead of holding it all in :)

OK, i;m a big fan of Disney but because I'm from the UK i cant visit Disney as much as i would like, so instead my local park is the wonderful UK's NO.1 park Alton Towers, I am a member of this board about AT and during that and the usually general discussion there always seems to be some Disney bashing if a themepark discussion is usually brought up. I get so fed up with it, but then again, people usually judge it from stereo types of being this "pretty and magical place filled with kids stuff" OK so it may have its fair share but i usually pity these people, because the people who think this have actually never been to a Disney park and only judge it from look and not experience.
It just annoys me soo much but afterwards from me explaining for years on end and getting my point through that Disney is something else then they finally realise that hey, Alton Towers could do with some Disney magic :)

Disney bashing "grrrrr" it annoys me! :brick:

I wouldn't worry too much about "Disney bashers." In the long run, these people (who BTW have nothing better to do than try and destroy one of the most magical places on earth) have very little impact on both the general public, who more or less ignore them, or Disney fanatics like us, who know better than to listen to them. Ultimately, I think M:S will stand on its own merits- if it truely makes everyone sick, word will get out (even though that is most likely not the case.) More realistically, it will probably be proven to be a great ride that thrill seekers and traditional Disney fans alike will enjoy.

I don't understand why anyone would waste their time trying to destroy something as rare and precious as "the Disney magic" with ridiculous claims such as these. Does Disney have its faults? Of course- always has and always will. But I don't think about them when I'm in the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. All I can think about is how amazing those places truely are, and it reminds me why I love Disney so much in the first place. If these people can get nothing out of how much Disnye puts in to make these places special through achitecture and design and cleanliness, that's fine, but why try to ruin it for others?

Uh ... ? Where are the 15 thrills? I count 2 at the most, Spider Man and Hulk, and after you ride them once the thrill is gone. The Dr. Doom ride is lame and exactly like any free falling ride at any Six Flags park and so is the Dragons garbage, so don't bring those up. IOA has 2 first time thrills, lousy theming, bad customer attention, dirty streets and attractions, and more lame rides. 15 thrills? Hardly. I have never been so bored in my life.

You know what....I actually like Shrek and the jokes about Disney, just because they are lighthearded and not meant to hurt Disney. I mean, the part where Shrek and Donkey have the surprise Polaroid picture is priceless....

Speaking of Disney bashing, I'm currently reading Mike Eisner's "Work In Progress." I think it gives insight onto his views of things in the Disney Company and voices his side of the story on many things, including Jeffrey Katzenberg leaving the company.

Overall, I laugh at people who try to make fun of Disney. It is so silly that people get all worked up about a company with a mouse as its "logo."

There are a group of Disney protesters who think Disney is purposely inserting inapropriate matirial in their movies, etc. Sort of like the S E X word in the cloud of dust in the lion king. They think that Disney is doing this on purpose.

I can tell you one reason why people (teens mostly) dont like Disney. It's not up to date with what millions of people are looking for, thrills, ok, you'll find a few thrills on the property, or you could go to the best theme park in the world (IOA) and get like 15 thrills at one park!

I hate to say this... but its obvious that you've never been to Cedar Point in Ohio. After that park, I couldn't help but be disappointed in IOA...

If you like rollercoasters, nothing beats Cedar Point...
And certainly not IOA...

But what the heck... who cares... this is a Disney Board..

Then again, something goes awry on a Six Flags coaster and suddenly news stations are on it like a predator goes after its prey.

I'm sure Disney is not the only theme park co. that is vunerable to scrutiny.

I know, and I heard from Feature Animation in Orlando that it was SFX, the name of one of the production or CGI companies. I can't remember which. I just know that it was the name of the company.
Silly people.

another thing....

I almost forgot...
The people who really don't like Disney are part of a section of the Southern Baptist organization. They don't really like that Disney is homosexual friendly and has contracts with more risque companies like Miramax.
I was in the library this week and a guy from NYU published an entire book on how Disney has more homosexual undertones than what we see....and he tries to prove how it dates back to Walt! By the way, who even cares?
There are also a few other "fascinating" books about anti-Disney stuff. One book talks about Minnie Mouse really being a guy inside and the guy uses it as an excuse to play with other men. Ummm....how many male Minnies do you know? Most, just percentage wise, are women.
Ya just try to be part of a well-meaning company and look what happens.

Ahhh....those who hate Disney. Where do I even begin...
I used to be a campus recruiter for WDW College Program at SUNY Albany, and even though I loved it when Disney came around, it was horrible trying to recruit. There was a group of about 10 "protesters" who would come together once every semester when they knew Disney was coming into town. They would rip down our posters, take a booth across from or next to us in the campus center, and interrupt the campus recruitment info session to harass our recruiter. All because they believed Disney has sweatshops. Now, I'm not going to turn a blind eye to their accusations, but I did my research, and their claims make no sense. And go figure, when Wal-Mart came into town they did nothing!
My sister is one of the few teenagers that loves Disney. It is even hard for her! Whenever we go to Disney World, she would even be made fun of by her teachers! Why people care to involve themselves in trivial things like this is beyond me.
I know Disney is a corporation, but people just need to loosen up. Relax, watch some Little Mermaid, and have some fun.

Sorry in advance for the thread drift.

SUNY Albany? Really?

Class of '85 here. (Wife is class of '87.)

Disney Bashers

Just the simple fact that we are talking about 'Disney Bashers' is validation enough for them. They know that their message is getting through (and aggravating folks). The best way to deal with this is to simply not acknowledge them.

The media operates the same way, if they lob out a story and nobody cares, it fades away. But if it creates a stir, and stokes passion, that story will hover around on the front pages for months.

A prefect example is the tragic case of Laci Peterson. While this is a horrendous crime, it happens more commonly than one may think. Most cases like this are lucky to make the evening news. But now that it has captured the hearts and minds of so many Americans, it has received much more air time than the war, the economy, and some of the landmark Supreme Court decisions this year PUT TOGETHER.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is - by giving their campaign (against Disney) recognition, we are making ourselves their unwitting pawns (because now THEY KNOW that they have an audience).

It's a free country, so they can say what they like. The best thing we can do is ignore them, and once their audience is gone, they'll stop running their mouths.

Just my two cents.

Very well said...its just that for the most part I personally follow that philosophy, the problem is that this whole bashing M:S thing really got me fired up...but oh well I guess eventually these babies will stop crying and leave Disney alone.

I'm all for bashing companies...but only when companies are doing something wrong. In my book the only thing Disney is guilty of is being cheap sometimes...thats all. But then again thats just my opinion.

What if... and you can call me crazy here... someone from Disney PR started the MS sickness rumors themselves?

I mean.. think about it.

First, bad publicity is good publicity in terms of hype.

Second, WDW has a reputation of being a "tame" park... you know, the kind of park a teenager would think is too "uncool" to go to when there is the "wild" park of IOA down the road.

It seems like WDW is trying to attract more of the thrill seekers to their parks with the types of rides they have been installing.

So, why not start a rumor that the Mission Space ride is too "intense" for Disney's normal guests.

Most roller coaster teens I know when presented with this kind of information would immediately decide that Mission Space is a must try for them.

As far as Disney's normal clientelle, the rumors are not going to frighten them from the parks, they may frighten them from riding mission space, but no loss there, it was a big nothing for a long time anyway.

So I am just saying, the negative publicity surrounding mission space is, in my opinion, no way hurting Disney World... in fact, I think it's helping.

It's certainly possible, I wouldn't put anything past the PR departments of large companies these days. But, the fact that a ride makes someone sick, doesn't necessarily mean it's intense. I was on a simulator ride (along the line of Body Wars) once, and the movie was just a tad bit out-of-sync, it was making everyone sick.

I can see your point on creating hype, but I'm not sure that Disney would want their older patrons thinking about running to the nearest trashbin after exiting the ride :)

Personally, I think people just made this rumor up because it is so common to get sick from high 'G' forces. All of the articles and rumors have hyped up the rides 'G's and negative 'G's, so people probably just assumed that it would make them sick and turned it into a rumor without knowing the facts. Either that - or it's an evil competitor :animwink:

Ummm...yeah, okay. I'm a huge Disney fan, and yes they might not have thrills, but there at least more than 15 rides!!! Don't get me wrong, I liked IOA, but when I went I was done with the park at 3 in the afternoon. Also, on a side not, better check you're facts about Best Theme Park, I believe that good old Cedar Point up in my backyard holds that title, they actually have 16 coasters, not 2...

If you are looking for thrill rides, Yoda is absolutely right. There is not a park on the planet than can touch Cedar Point. They have held multiple world records in thrill rides for as long as I can remember. The park isn't really 'themed' as well as some of the others, but if your looking for thrills, it is THE place to be.
