The numbers aren’t bad on their own if there nothing changed from last year. But SWGE in DL and in Florida didn’t move the needle. Again they squeezed out an ok result through cuts and price increases, but from an internal standpoint it is a major disappointment.
It also was only half open in Disneyland and only half open for 1 of 3 reported months at WDW.

SWGE isn’t even fully operational and people avoiding it for fear of crowds is real. Longer term, it will be a hit, no doubt.

Do you own shares? I don’t think it’s a disappointing result at all and neither does the street. It was a great quarter overall and Parks did well yet again, particularly given some circumstances worldwide, weather, and park construction factors.

It wasn’t my decision to open the land half opened. They rolled the dice and lost. (Twice). Will they ever be able to recreate a gang buster opening that was expected originally, when ROTR finally opens? Indications are no. Yes it will be popular long term but they wanted to see “boarding groups” being needed for months after opening. Chances are that they may never be needed again.

Except that was an intentional decision on their opening strategy, also Given their preparations , price increases, and block outs (at DL) they weren’t expecting the massive crowds to care.
Not all of it was entirely intentional but intentional or not it’s still skewing the results.

You can’t properly judge the economic success of the land until it’s fully open for a full quarter.

ahh but Wall Street can. Fortunately for @realBobChapek it gets buried in the rest of the report.

Sometime this evening, Disney will post a 10K to the SEC.gov site. This will give us greater detail about individual parks.... On the call the CFO made statements and was asked a question about Q1 Parks revenue and earnings. She did say revenue is likely to be up based on early bookings for the domestic parks, but earnings will be off-set based on higher hourly wage agreement which went into effect at the beginning of the new fiscal year.

Also, there will be 53 weeks of earnings in 2020 compared to 52 weeks in 2019.

Bob Iger also commented that both SWGE attractions are much more successful than reported. Over 1.7 million people have ridden the first ride in DisneyLand since it was opened at the end of May.
