As for the OP, I tend to agree with you about the HM queue. I was excited to see it, but in the end, I wasn't really impressed. It was kind of neat to see the first time, but I have no desire to go through that queue again.?

I agree with you. When I was there in July I was able to ride HM many times during the week since it is one of my favorites. I only chose to go through the interactive queue once. I was excited to see if for the first time after hearing about it on here. I was way disappointed. I never went through it again. Instead I chose to go to the right and skip it.

Also, one little funny thing I heard while waiting in line for HM. The lady in front of us said to the people she was with, "Let's go to the right, it is the scarier ride." My self and the others I was with laughed hysterically and joked about it for the remainder of our trip.

Interactive queues.

Soarin - eh. I guess it's better than staring at the person's back in front of you.

HM - not bad but you feel rushed through it.

Pooh - I liked it and my 9 year old daughter really liked it. Plus the themeing is top notch.

Space Mountain - never got a chance to play. Either FP or went with low lines.

Soarin- I will never wait in stand by for Soarin ever again. Worst queue line ever. Long, tedious and interactive queue is annoying. Not my thing. Fast pass or just pass on this.

HM-My favorite classic attraction. Interactive queue did not add to the show. I'll do it once a visit then bypass.

Pooh- Adds to the look of the attraction but is of no interest to anyone over 9 yrs old.

Space Mountain- This queue I had the least interest in and it turned out to be my favorite. In stand by, it does the job perfectly well. Keeps in theme while being enjoyable for short bursts of time as the line moves. Well done.

Overall, the majority of the interactive queues have turned out to be playgrounds for small children. Unless Disney realizes that they are beginning to stray from Walt's philosophy for the parks, being that the parks are for adults as well as children, they will soon find themselves encouraging adults to go to other destinations.

I'm all for the interactive queues. I'm not all for playing in a themed playpen.

The interactive queue's add to the experience & story. Haven't seen HM in person yet, but from what I'm hearing, it is beyond impressive. :)

Get used to it, this is definitely the wave of the future. However, they are clearly treading into new territory and are trying things out as they go. I would expect them to evolve and change as they do new ones.

The peak of development seems to be the new Dumbo que, that will actually be queless and interactive while you wait in a holding room... tent.

I like the HM queue, but to me, it's not beyond impressive by any means. I agree with you that the queues add to the story which is a good thing of course, but none of the queues are overly impressive to me.

The only one I don't "love" is the HM one. I agree that too much is going on, but I'm glad they leave the option to skip it if you want. I've only went through that que once, and probably will go through again someday. But unless they make me go through, I usually bypass it.

The pooh one is ok, like someone else said, the original one wasn't much at all. Nothing was taken from the atmosphere but the new stuff adds to it imo. The Space mt. games can be annoying honestly. Usually the lines can be semi short and some people just have to stop and play them. If I can't see that the line has moved then I'm usually ok, but if a few people in front of me want to stop that's cool just don't get mad when you get skipped.

I don't mind them as I wait in line...they are somewhat helpful in distracting you from the waits...but what I DO mind is how they keep budgeting for all these new queues instead of spending money on ride maintenence and new attractions. I'm sorry, but if the choice is between adding an interactive queue or spending money on maintenence, they sure as heck better spend it on maintenence!

My only beef with the interactive queue at HM is that if it backs up, it keeps people from getting to the normal entrance, because we all know that parties like to spread out in a line and not move to the side.

I didn't read this whole thread, but seriously, you can't let go of a cheesy effect that's been around for 40 years to give way to some incredible new technology that reimagines and maintains the spirit of the original? Don't get so mesmerized by nostalgia (or by being a simple Luddite) that you can't see an improved experience just because it utilizes new technology or somehow changes something you've always known.

I haven't experienced the HM queue yet. But the other interactive queues, I like. They go along with other queues that aren't interactive, but are immersive nonetheless. Prior to the update, the Pooh queue was basic switchback...nothing to recommend it. Now, it's fun for kids. And for adults, it begins to tell the story (Chapter 1, as the Disney folks put it). Much like the Test Track queue begins to tell the story, and much like the queue for Nemo, if you watch what's happening, begins to tell the story. And much like the Tower of Terror queue, through the courtyard of the hotel, and the lobby, begins to tell the story. I have always liked the immersive queues. The interactive ones just take it to a new level, and give you things to do, not just things to look at and think about. If done within the theming of the attraction, I love it.

On the flip side, the games in the Soarin' and Space Mountain queues, I do not love. They are time killers, which is good, but have little to do with setting up the attraction.

The thing about Soarin' and Space Mountain's queues is that they don't contradict the theme. Haunted Mansion's queue does not make sense in the flow of the ride's plot.

And that alone is enough to kill it for me. Throw in the fact that it's not very entertaining, and any entertainment value it has is killed by the fact that it entertains you for what would be a couple yards of empty queue, satisfied by, I don't know, 2 minutes of waiting. It's a bit noisy, too. I preferred the ambient wolf howl to weird instrumental arrangements of Grim Grinning Ghosts.

It does nothing to help and everything to ruin.

Maybe I'm over-critical because I love the Haunted Mansion so much, but that's the thing. When you have something as great as the Haunted Mansion, people put it on a pedestal, and anything you do to change it will be scrutinized. That's the way it works. Disney was very careful with the 2007 round of changes, and they were very popular. I will say that I like the Hitchhiking Ghost changes, though. It's just that queue that annoys me...

Not at all. The only interactivity I saw was touching instruments and making Dr. Seuss-esque rhymes. Yippee.

The appearance is kinda nice (Well, parts of it. I'm talking about the Captain's tomb, not the "He's buried vertically" Master Gracey and Marc tombstones. :P), but the direct plot contradiction is a killer.

The thing is that, a lot of times, Disney makes changes for the sake of making changes, even when those changes offer little to improve the experience. They like the privilege of saying "LOOK AT THIS GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGY".

As I said before, Haunted Mansion is put on a pedestal. All changes will be scrutinized. There is an argument to be made that the Hitchhiking Ghosts are too silly for the attraction. Even the Marc Davis half.

Now, I take it as an improvement. But you can't outright say that, because it is new and innovative, that it must be an improvement. A lot of music and movie remasters today are criticized for making changes that deviate too far from the initial vision. That's the exact issue we see here.

It's an improvement. End of story for like 90% of guests. Also, they didn't do it to simply show off new tech. They did it to 1. show you new tech, and 2 sell you that new tech when they eventually sell you a motion cap of the ghost taking your head off or whatever.

Soarin' - I also hate that queue as well. The games are not all that great in my opinion and for most of the time, I just stood there NOT playing any games because they wouldn't come on.

Space Mountain - I enjoy these games. They don't entirely fit, but they are somewhat themed to the attraction. Only thing I don't like is when they choose to fill the switchbacks near the station load area when the line isn't that long and it would have been better to fill the line where the games are.

Pooh - I love this interactive queue. It fits the story perfectly and is beautiful. My only complaints are the noise and that it is geared primarily for young children rather than entire families and groups. The noise is the biggest issue as it will give you a headache, but otherwise, everything is spaced out throughout the line which keeps people entertained. I was worried about the wear and tear on this queue and sure enough there are some parts that are showing the wear and tear already, but some have been replaced or fixed quite nicely.

Haunted Mansion - This interactive queue was a huge let down to me. The effects are cool. The nods towards various aspects of the ride and storyline are fun, but it doesn't fit in entirely with the story you are about to be told. My biggest issues with this queue is the bypass and how it is all clumped in one area. Isn't the point of the interactive queue is to entertain guests while they wait in line. If guests have to wait in a long line with out the interactive elements and then are rushed through the last 5 minutes of their wait which is in the interactive area, that doesn't seem like a win to me. Also, if a guest can bypass the interactive queue, doesn't that also defeat the purpose as well. After some of the novelty wears off, won't people just want to get to the attraction as quick as possibly, especially on those busier days when it is needed more? It would have been nice if the interactive elements were spread out more.
