DINOSAUR vs INDY

I love Dinosaur! The dino's coming out at you and the strobe light when you take off. The movement out of the cars is incredible. I technology of this ride is great and would love to see one that is Indy themed @ WDW, since I will not get to DL for a couple of years.

indy wins this contest in my book (just my opinion). the theming and queue is absolutely top notch, especially for fans of indy (which i am a huge one - just check avatar). blazing thru the temple of doom or hunting dinosaurs!?! hmmm... just give me my indy, and leave the dinosaurs to the universe of energy... hey, maybe they could combine UOE and dinosaur :) imagine converting those huge theater cars into dinosaur/indy type ride vehicles (yeah yeah, i know it's not possible - but it sure would be funny)

IMO, I feel that Indy is the leader in both theme and thrills.

I agree. I think for my stepson and I Dinosaur was over-hyped and we were a bit letdown after the ride because it seemed too jumpy, not the ride vehicles the story itself seemed too jumpy.

When we heard Indy was sort of a Dino clone (or vice-versa) we had low expectations going in and were completely blown-away. I love Indy @ DL.

Sorry, let me clarify what I was saying. It was over-hyped within my family and in my area of the country. I saw a lot of info on it on tv/etc, but not on so much on Indy. We were so excited to ride Dinosaur, then ended up in a vehicle with four teenage girls behind us who must have coincided their screaming/breathing techniques so that at all times a minimum of three were shreaking at the top of their lungs right in our ears.

Personally I was bored and only go on the ride because it's one of the few things to do at AK, and now my littlest ones are into Dinos. If it disapeared one night I'm sure I would not miss it. Where-as if Indy were to vanish I would be unhappy about it every time I walked through adventureland.

Both are great in their own ways.

I've always loved Indy because they got everything right on this one in my opinion (Que, inventive ride system at the time, theme, effects, etc). Will always be a crowd pleaser even going on 10 years old next year.

Dino is also a great ride in its own ways. Its darker and a little more frightening (not to mention loud). I do like how they took existing ride technology and made a completely different look and feel (all with the same layout). Go Imagineers.

If I were to pick one though and why, I'd say Indy because of it's musical score. Although a great ride, it's that unmistakeable music that really heightens the overall ride experience. Its so much nicer than listening to Dr. Seeker ; )

Really, why did he lie to us and say he would have us out in no time and then only give us 1 minute to locate a dino in a meteor storm...geesh :animwink:

I have never ridden Indy so I can't say. But you have to ride Dinosaur with your friends. Then the ride is one of the best on Disney Property. The ride doesn't have the same fun factor when you go with family members, but then again when I went with my friends, Dinosaur had a 5 minute wait all day due to the downpouring. (5 minutes would be the preshow)

I like both rides but I do like Indiana Jones a lot more than Dinosaur. I like how it's sometimes a different ride experience and you go through different rooms and Indy says different things...Dinosaur is pretty much the same ride each time. I really hope they consider bringing this ride here to WDW. I can see it fitting in Adventureland, in Animal Kingdom, and MGM too...

do u think if INdy does come to MGM will it be exactly the same or will they do the themeing and such better and will they make it the same with 3 different rooms ?

the EMV system allows the rides to be as violent as they want to make it. Countdown to Extinction had a height requirement of I think 48" (if not 48"), and when it opened as DINOSAUR, it dropped to a 40" requirement.

I don't know. The fact is that it depends on the right level of money spent in the project. It would cost more to use the same design layout (ie, more building removal & land) but it also costs money to create a new layout that would fit. Personally, I think we will see the same layout, but with some different themeing, and a different story (Frobidden Eye vs. Crystal Skull for example).

True, but then we have also heard the higher-ups are dead-set against bringing it because it shares the same "layout" as Dinosaur (I guess they learned their lesson with Star Tours/Body Wars).

What I'd really like to see is a combination of the Indy dark ride with the "backwards" Indy coaster in Paris. Post-Mummy, and post-Spiderman, Disney really needs to up the ante with the next franchise ride they build.

Dino has this built in too, just not as obvious. Sometimes, the timerovers will get "stuck in the mud" or stall and dr. seeker is trying to get it started again. So, there is some, though slight, variations.

P.S. The begining rooms on Indy are actually the same room...they just change the color and sound. Since we are going back in time, this really didn't make a whole lot of sense to make it different randomly. I just wish they would have donw a little better job with the time travel section at the begining.

Since I have not ridden either, Can anyone tell me if the ride portion is anything like Adventure Express at PKI. Adventure Express cars are like mining cars and the theming is a lot like the Indiana Jones feel. Anyone?

Its nothing like it actually. Adventure express is more like big thunder mountain than Indy. Indy is comepletely submersive. The Que line itself is something to see. Is all indoors, so there is no open air coaster ride. In the simplest terms, the ride vehicles are like convertible simulators that ride along a track through show scenes.

Hope that gives a little insight? I grew up in Oxford Ohio, so I'ma PKI man myself. Try and visit the park, I mean family, every summer ; )

Thanks. I feel kinda stupid for asking the question to begin with.

I'll probably be heading out to PKI tonight. The kids want to do Nick's Slime Zone. With temps in the upper 80's and high humidity, sounds like a good idea. See ya.
