Dinosaur Sucks?

I don't care for dinosaur at all. The very beauty of most disney dark rides (Mansion, Pirates, Thunder, Indy, Test Track) is the sheer amount of detailing done to the attraction's interior that makes the ride a truly immersive experience and creates an aura of mystery and an illusion of there being so much more "past" the track. How many times have you wanted to leap off of Thunder and get a closer look at the flood scene, or wondered exactly what's inside of Brer Rabbit's house on Splash Mountain? This is the sort of thing that makes people want to ride attractions over and over again and is exactly what's missing from CTX/D. Because Dinosaur is little more than a sea of darkness with a few flood-lighted neon-red Demonosaurs popping out at you, the ride is simply not as fun or impressive as Disney's usual efforts. The meteor's are boring, the scenery is non-existent, and the pterodactyls look as if they were purchased in the post-ride giftshop. CTX is today a very dissapointing ride, but it had, and still does have, so much potential.

Here's to hoping we get a REAL Indy in Adventureland... hopefully the crystal-skull-ed kind.

I don't like Dinosaur jsut because i found it very scary :)

I'm not a fan of going up and down.. my non-attempts to ride Splash attest to that.

It goes up and down a lot..

Hey everyone!!!!!! I'm new to the board but have been a Disney fan for many years now. I see ya'll are talking about the ways you do or don't like Dinosaur now. Well, Dinosaur isn't the only ride i noticed has been toned down. There are several including Test Track. I rode both rides back in 2000 and they were awesome. Now I just think they are too slow and Dinosaur really DID loose something in it's effect when they cut out most of the lighting. Back when it was CTE, it was scary even to me..LOL But now it's more of a kiddie ride. Hopefully these budget cuts that seem to be plaguing Disney and their rides will soon end as it's ruining the park. Take care till the next time.....

The one thing that I don't like about the ride is the picture....man. In my 3 times on the ride...I have never seen a person buying it. But at all the other rides where they do, there is a massive line. But at Dinosaur/CTX whatever you want to call it, there is never anyone, and it's in the worst possible spot. When the carnotaur lunges at you. Sure....That might get the tykes...but if you want everyone with a picture that looks like they just crapped their pants...do it at the end. That makes me jump a little every time. But where the picture is now, it looks like a time rover either full of drunk people or full of the insomniacs of america.

Oh and the other thing i don't like and yes I am aware that I said there was only one thing, is that cheap carnotaur animatronic that "Chases" you. That looks like the plastic santa face that my grandmother hangs in her window every christmas...but after reading the earlier posts, my guess is that is due to budget cuts as well.

And just a little bit of a trivia question, The Guy who plays Dr. Seeker...Is that the Secretary from that old show "Veronica's Closet?" I think it is but I'm not sure.

I agree!:D

"Please Dont flash cameras, that alters a homing signal..... and thats not good!!" Did they forget the part where it says, U cant flash stuff at the Dinosaurs but we can flash homing signals at u really bright and in your eyes!!!!

Sometimes that wonders me.

yeah! But still.... They flash those things in your eyes too many times and they tell u not to! "Please dont flash cameras on this ride" They left out the part that says..... "OH yeah, u cant flash stuff and we can!"

The point of flashing cameras on this ride is if u haven't rode it before, and your not a enthusiasts of Disney or thrills or coasters like we are, Than u most likely wont know where the camera is...:lookaroun

Its hard to find where the camera on Dinosaur/CTX is with all that flashing going on. It's at the carnotaur that lunges at the time rover. But I still say it should be at the end. And I thought of Dino/CTX peeve #3, possibly due to budget cuts, but just as you enter the first time tunnel...what is with that security booth? To me it looks like there was originally gonna be an animatronic guard there or something

This may be just a matter of expectations and whether they are met, not met, or exceeded. But when Indy first opened I heard it was the most incredible, elaborate and technologically advanced attraction Disney had ever built. Needless to say, my expectations were extremely high. And I was majorly disappointed the first (and second, and third, and....) times I rode it. I think the so-called "storyline" is incredibly weak and hard to follow. And the Indiana Jones animatronic at the end is really terrible. They spent all this money on the attraction and then put in an animatronic that looks like a first generation Mr. Lincoln.

Dinosaur, on the other hand, continues to be a much more enjoyable attraction to me (before and after the changes). I agree that the "dark" spots would be better if they filled them with more dinosaurs and special effects. But all in all I think it is a better attraction. The storyline is simpler (which, in a fast paced thrill attraction is appropriate) and they do a much better job of setting it up ahead of time than Indy does.

To me, the really sad thing about the changes has nothing to do with the ride itself. I used to love the animatronic "escaped" dinosaur from the attraction that you used to see along the bank of the river. You could see it from the now defunct boat ride and also from one of the bridges across the river. I loved the continuity of that effect (something I don't believe we've seen before in a Disney attraction).

Also the aforementioned budget cuts did not result in just the dark areas of the ride. But the toning down of the ride vehicles served a cost saving purpose as well (less maintenance). The same thing was done with the simulators on Star Tours about three years after the attraction opened. Much as we'd all like to believe it was done to make the ride more enjoyable for all members of the family, remember that Disney is owned by stockholders and therefore, money was the primary consideration here.

I never thought of the dino on the riverbed as having escaped from the ride, but I guess it works! I always thought that they should have placed that animatronic in the ride, in one of the dark spots. It could be the Iguanadon that we are looking for and they could have it running away from us until we catch it in the end, all they would have to do is paint it to match the other one and have it move behind some trees...

There is an Iguanadon in Dinosaur (but I'm not sure if its actually an animatronic). Its at the very end, to the left of the time tunnel just as the asteroid hits. You only get a quick glimpse of it.

What animatronic outside are you talking about? I only remember a Triceratops statue (or something of the sort) outside the building. I was at AK in December 99.

There used to be an Iguanadon on the edge of Discovery River. It was one of the things that was removed when the Discovery River Boat ride closed. Also, I knew that there was an Iguanadon in the ride, but if there were another one, they could make it look like we were chasing it through the ride.
