Dining Plan

Does anyone know if you can get the dining plan if you are staying on property but not going to a park that day? I am going down to WDW on the first day of the free dining deal on August 16th. My mother in law and son are flying up 2 days early and checking into the Pop before we get there. We will be there in the morning on the 15th, our plans on this day are just to go to DTD and spend the day there so no parks. I was wondering if we could get the dining plan for the 2 days we are going to be there before our package starts on the 16th. We have 2 separate reservations due to the deal so I know I'd have to pay for the dining plans for the first 2 days but I thought it might be easier to go with a plan since we will be eating lunch in DTD and probably at one of the resorts for dinner anyway. Thanks for any help!

The short answer to your question is no, you can't do what you're asking.

The longer answer is that the Dining Plan can only be added to a vacation package reservation. That package must include hotel and park tickets (at least a 1-day ticket for each person in the room). I believe there's also a minimum number of nights (3 or 4) to make it a package.

Lastly, the number of meal credits you get is based on the number of *hotel nights* you're staying. It has no link to how many days your park tickets are for. You could conceivably book your package with 1-day tickets, not even use the tickets, and still get full use out of the Dining Plan by eating entirely at the restaurants in the hotels and Downtown Disney.

Your only option (that includes still having the Free Dining for most of your stay) is to just pay for your meals out-of-pocket for those first two days.
