We have a dining plan, but it won't cover all of our meals; my daughter and son in law will be picking up the difference. If their payment method is linked to their magic band as is there DP credits, how do they make sure they are charge to the card vs taking it off any remaining DP credits?

dining plan vs paying outright

They tell the server how they wish to split the check. And the receipt will detail the number of credits used and the number left.

They will be asked how they are paying.
If they say the dining plan then those credits will be taken off.
If they say cash/credit card/or charging to their room reservation it will be done accordingly.
